Padres Winter League Report: December 21 (Tatis Hits Dramatic Homer in 11th for Playoff Victory)

Friday was a busy day for the San Diego Padres’ players and prospects who were playing around the globe.

Here is a recap of the day’s events:

Australian Baseball League

Kelvin Melean– (1-2) SB

The infield prospect is hitting .211 on the season after a 1-for-2 game on Friday morning. He started at second base and hit in the two-hole.

Justin Lopez– (1-2) Run, K

Lopez was the starting shortstop and had a 1-for-2 game at the plate. He is hitting .197 on the season in the ABL.

Michael Gettys– (1-3) Run, RBI, 2 BB, K, SB, CS

Gettys is up to .316 on the year in Australia. Gettys was in the cleanup position and played right field. He stole his third base of the year in the game.

Dominican winter league

Fernando Tatis Jr.– (1-4) HR, Run, RBI, BB, K, SB

Fernando Tatis continues his mythical run as a minor league player. He hit a mammoth drive deep into the Dominican night off Fernando Rodney in the top of the 11th inning for the Estrellas Orientales. (Video below)

Francisco Mejia– (1-5) 2B, Run

Tatis’ teammate in the D.R. is Mejia who recorded a .544 OPS in 66 at-bats this season. On Friday, he was catching and batting seventh.

Franchy Cordero– (2-4) 3B, Run, RBI, BB

Tatis win was off of the Leones, and Padres teammate Franchy Cordero. The outfielder went 2-for-4 in the game and recorded a .705 OPS in 99 at-bats this season in the D.R.

Puerto Rican winter league

Aldemar Burgos– (1-2) 2B, Run, K

The right-handed-hitting outfielder went 1-for-2 with a double on Friday. He is hitting .257 so far this season in Puerto Rico.

Mexican winter league

Esteban Quiroz– (1-2) HR, RBI, Run, 2 BB, K

Quiroz hit his fourth homer of the season on Friday and is hitting .253 in Mexico.

Venezuelan winter league

No Padres’ players in action
