Humiliating, pitiful, uninspiring; these are just some words that can be used to describe Xolos Femenil’s final game of the season.

The Tijuana Xolos women’s team lost 3-0 to Puebla at the Estadio Caliente to cap off a very poor Liga MX Femenil 2018 Apertura season.

Andrea Rodebaugh’s team never really had a chance in this game as they were facing a Puebla team that was inspired to make the playoffs on a nine-game undefeated streak. There was hope in the first half as the Club Tijuana ladies put up a good fight with a 0-0 score at halftime, but that hope was extinguished in the second half.

Puebla’s top goalscorer, Mariela Jimenez, scored the first goal of the match in the 64th minute as she made Xolos’ defense look silly. In the 70th minute, Puebla’s captain Jessica Tenorio pulled off a long-range shot that was able to beat Itzel Gonzalez to make it 2-0 for La Franja.

Mariela Jimenez then scored her second of the game and ninth of the season in the 81st minute to secure the 3-0 win for Puebla. Xolos Femenil looked fatigued and did not have any clear scoring chances in the second half as their season came to an end.

The Club Tijuana ladies ended the 2018 Apertura with just nine points from two wins, three draws, and 11 losses.

The border city team also had the second-worst offense in the league with only 10 goals scored, but there is hope for the future with promising young players like Karen Maprigat, Valentina Oviedo, and Layzha Garcia, just to name a few.
