The Tijuana Xolos will have a challenging task in Week 3 of the Liga MX Clausura 2018, playing against Monterrey away from home.

It is very clear that Monterrey has a much better squad than Club Tijuana, but there are also other reasons why Los Rayados should defeat the Xolos this Saturday.

Here are three reasons why I think the border city team will get their first loss of this 2018 Clausura tournament.

Monterrey’s Offensive Power

Monterrey manager, Antonio Mohamed, announced that Aviles Hurtado and Jonathan Urretaviscaya will be available for this match. The former Xolo, Aviles Hurtado, has yet to play a minute this season as he was injured in the first two weeks of play. The Colombian forward proved that he is one of the best players in Mexico in 2017, managing to be the Liga MX’s top goalscorer in the 2017 Apertura with 11 goals. Antonio Mohamed also has players like Rogelio Funes Mori, Dorlan Pabon, and Carlos Sanchez on his team that makes Monterrey a force going forward. Mohamed uses a counter-attacking style that can be very dangerous to any team, and that will be shown this Saturday.

Gibran Lajud’s Inconsistency

Gibran Lajud has been playing out of his skin to start off the new season, with two clean sheets so far. You could say that the Mexican keeper has been Club Tijuana’s best player so far, but that can’t last. We have seen it before. Lajud will have a couple of great games in a row then will commit a silly error that will have the fans turn on him. At 24 years old, Lajud is still very young for a goalkeeper and is still learning and will consequently have his occasional blunders. These types of errors are more likely to come against a team like Monterrey that has players like Dorlan Pabon and Aviles Hurtado, that like to shoot from long range.

Estadio BBVA Bancomer

La Pandilla was undefeated at home during the Apertura 2017 regular season and will look to keep that going this year. Monterrey’s first game at home in this 2018 Clausura was a 1-1 tie with Monarcas Morelia, but La Monarquia had to get a very late penalty to get that point at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer. This game should be very tough for the Xolos against one of the best offensive powers in the league, away from home in front of over 40 thousand people at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer.
