Sockers trade longtime defender Victor Quiroz to Sonora

Longtime Sockers defender Victor Quiroz has been traded to the Soles de Sonora for future considerations.

Club policy states that terms of the deal cannot be announced, but Quiroz desired to be closer to his family and this trade will allow him to be close to them.

Last season, Quiroz played in 18 games while compiling 15 points thanks to 13 assists and two goals.

He also was the only one of three Sockers to appear in all 24 games, scoring eight goals and eight assists.

Quiroz had a desire to play closer to his family in Mexico, and Sonora will give him the opportunity to do so. Soles de Sonora play their games in Hermosillo, the capital city of Sonora. Sonora is 978 kilometers away from Mexico City and 444 miles away from San Diego, so it won’t be far to go for him.

Quiroz played in three games with the Sockers this year and amassed three points by scoring one goal and getting two assists. The presence of younger options like Cesar Cerda and John Sosa left little playing time for Quiroz, but it was his desire to play closer to his family that ultimately triggered the trade.

With Quiroz gone, Cerda, Sosa, and Ray Contrerras will have bigger roles to play on the defense.
