Week 2 Aug 19th, the San Diego Chargers ended a productive week with the Arizona Cardinals.

Fresh off of two joint practices on Tuesday & Wednesday, Philip Rivers was given the rare night off. Instead backup QB Kellen Clemens was given the starting nod.

A decisive Keenan Allen looks ready to go for 2016. Allen had 41 receiving yards on two receptions. He had a long play for 28 yards before his night concluded in the first half. Second year wideout Tyrell Williams contributed with 47 receiving yards on four receptions.

Friday however, was about the deee-fense!

Less than halfway into the first quarter San Diego was stealing. Veteran cornerback Brandon Flowers, made an incredible 25 yard interception return on Carson Palmer. That was quickly followed up late in the first quarter by Jahleel Addae, on a Drew Stanton pass which was nearly returned as well. The Chargers were up 10-0, a sign of things to come.

For the second straight week Arizona’s backup quarterbacks have looked pretty bad. As for San Diego, Kellen Clemens was 11 of 20 for 134 yards. A serviceable and solid game with the first team. Undrafted fourth string quarterback Mike Bercovici from ASU may have opened a few eyes with a great performance. On the flip-side, third string quarterback Zach Mettenberger recently signed after two years in Tennessee sat and did not play? Not entirely a surprise as he has looked bad early this preseason. Zach isn’t safe I suspect, while Mike may stay on the roster.

I See You:

Melvin Gordon

He ran for 18 yards on six carries. Sounds like a bad night but, he had a nice 12 yard run in the 1st quarter. Last year the same play may have been a short gain or loss of yards. Gordon definitely looks confident and healthy in 2016.

Josh Lambo

This young defense is having fun. Chargers Kicker Josh Lambo, was the main contributor on offense Friday night. Lambo was 4/4 with a 50 yard long field goal.

Chargers Defense

I see the vision that Telesco has, this team will grow together. This is a pretty young club. Week 3 vs Minnesota is the dress rehearsal. Starters tend to play longer during Week 3 of the preseason. Week 4 is usually all or nothing for fringe players. The Chargers are presently 1-1 in the preseason. Joey Bosa may also be talking to Dean. To Be Continued…..
