Down on the Farm: July 14
The San Diego Padres affiliates were 6-2 on Friday.
El Paso was victorious, behind a solid effort from Dillon Overton on the mound. The lefty pitcher went six strong innings, allowing two earned runs on the night. Chase d’Arnaud was 2-5 and the Chihuahuas flexed their muscles by hitting five home runs. Christian Villanueva, Ryan Schimpf, Nick Buss, Collin Cowgill, and Diego Goris all went deep.
The Missions survived a rough outing by Eric Lauer. He was hit pretty well, but was able to battle the whole night and earn the win. Ty France, Luis Urias, Noah Perio, and Nick Schulz all had two hits for the Padres’ Double-A affiliate. Eric Yardley threw 1.1 scoreless innings and Buddy Baumann went one inning, allowing a run on two hits.
The Lake Elsinore Storm stayed hot, as Logan Allen was productive on the mound. Rod Boykin homered for his third straight game and has been on a tear since being promoted to the California League. Javier Guerra, Fernando Perez, Austin Allen, and Carlos Belen all had two hits on the night.
In the Midwest League, the TinCaps got a great start from Reggie Lawson. He went seven strong innings , striking out seven batters. The offense was quiet on the day, but still managed to get the timely hits, as Hudson Potts and Jack Suwinski each had two hits in the game.
Another strong pitching performance on the night for the Friars, as Henry Henry was dominant at Tri-City. He went seven innings, only allowing two hits on the night. Justin Lopez was the hitting star on the night for the Dust Devils.
The AZL Padres 2 lost 4-2, as the team struck out 14 times in the contest. Mason House and Gabriel Arias each K’d three times for the Friars. Aaron Leasher was on the mound and was solid, but Emmanuel Clase gave up three runs in his three innings of work.
The other AZL team, the AZL Padres 1 team was victorious, as the team had a decent offensive night. Jason Pineda had three hits, Jonny Homza had two hits, and Angel Santos went 2-4 with a home run for the Padres. Cory Mazzoni went a scoreless inning, striking out all three.
In the Dominican, the DSL team was roughed up pretty bad. They lost 14-1, as the pitching was annihilated. Cesar Gonzalez, Enzo Perez, and Brayan Rosario all gave up four earned runs on the day. Offensively, the team also struck out 10 times and only managed six hits in the game (three of them were off the bat of Yordi Francisco).
