Down on the Farm: August 9 (France Homers in El Paso Debut, Osvaldo Throws Six Shutout Innings)
The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres were 1-7 on Thursday.

El Paso Chihuahuas (65-50) Lost 2-1
A low-scoring affair resulted in the snapping of a seven-game winning streak for the El Paso Chihuahuas. Dillon Overton continued to pitch well and is making his case for a September call-up, pitching six innings of one-run ball while striking out two batters. The lone run came from Ty France‘s fourth inning solo home run, his first in an El Paso uniform. France was making his Triple-A debut and went 2-4 with the home run and a strikeout. Seth Simmons allowed what would be the winning run to cross in the seventh inning on a solo home run by Peter Bourjos.

San Antonio Missions (65-41) Lost 4-3
Chris Paddack made the best of his short start as the Padres try to limit his innings as it becomes later in the season. In five innings of work, the tall Texan allowed one run and struck out four, even slapping an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Webster Rivas got the Missions on the board with his RBI single in the fourth, while a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning brought home Austin Allen to bring the Missions to within a run. However, Nick Schulz and Buddy Reed struck out to end the game with runners on second and third. Hudson Potts was 0-2 with two walks and a stolen base in his Double-A debut.

Lake Elsinore Storm (57-60) Lost 11-0
Ronald Bolanos was hit hard in his five innings of work and the Storm lost by eleven runs a day after scoring eleven runs. Bolanos allowed nine runs in nine hits in his start, which also saw him allow three home runs to Rawhide batters. Travis Radke allowed two runs in his two innings and the only hit the Storm got was a double from Chris Baker in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Storm struck out 14 times and also struck out seven times in a row.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (53-61) Won 4-0
Osvaldo Hernandez had a no-hitter going through the first four innings and led a strong pitching unit to a shutout of the Lake County Captains. Hernandez continued his strong season by pitching six shutout innings while striking out five, lowering his ERA to 1.81 and making his case for a spot on the Top 30 Prospects list. In his second game as a TinCap, Owen Miller blasted his second home run in his Low-A career while going 3-4 on the day. Reiss Knehr and Jose Quezada pitched the final three innings to preserve the shutout while Jeisson Rosario padded the lead with a two-run triple in the fifth inning.

Tri-City Dust Devils (23-29) Lost 3-0
The day after the All-Star Game saw the Dust Devils lose their fifth game in a row and fail to score a single run. Two early runs allowed by Sam Keating put the Hops in front and Tri-City couldn’t make up the ground. Keating would allow the two runs in five innings while striking out five, but his offense was unable to back him up. New Dust Devils Xavier Edwards and Tucapita Marcano, call-ups from the Arizona Padres who replaced Owen Miller and Oliver Basabe, went 1-3 and 0-4 respectively.

The Padres 1 squad only managed one run and a single hit while committing two errors in a game where they struck out 13 times as team. Frank Lopez pitched only two innings and allowed one run to cross as Efrain Contreras pitched for five innings in his stead, allowing one run and striking out five batters. The lone Padres hit came from a Carlos Ruiz single, but it was a sacrifice fly hit by Luis Almanzar in the fifth inning that scored the only Padres run of the game.

The Padres 2 squad couldn’t win a close one-run game as they lost their one-run lead in the seventh inning after Mason Fox allowed two runs to cross in the seventh inning. The Padres put themselves in the lead with a run-scoring wild pitch and a two-out single from Mason House, but a two-run double hit by the AZL Royal’s David Hollie put the Royals back on top for the rest of the game. Jean Cosme pitched for two scoreless frames while Manny Guzman pitched four innings of one-run ball, walking one and striking out one.

DSL Padres (30-28) Lost 2-1
An excellent start by Edgar Martinez was wasted as the DSL Padres couldn’t get the offense revved up early enough. Martinez pitched seven shutout innings while striking out seven batters, allowing only four hits and lowering his ERA to 2.35 on the season. The Padres took the lead on a throwing error that allowed Luis Paez to score from first base. A two-run ninth inning by the DSL Blue Jays off of Alan Mundo walked it off for the home team while the winning run came across on a wild pitch by Mundo.
