There have been many issues for this seasons San Diego Chargers. There is a ton of uncertainty regarding the future of this franchise in San Diego. There are also questions regarding the future of its defensive captain Eric Weddle. The most common theme which has been devastating is injuries to the whole team on both sides of the ball.

The latest injuries suffered are a knee injury to Orlando Franklin and an arm injury to Denzel Perryman. The injury to Franklin seems especially serious as the mammoth offensive lineman was carted off the field on Sunday versus the Raiders. He was seen in the locker room hobbling and his future will not be known until Monday at the earliest. He could be lost for an extensive period.

Perryman left Qualcomm stadium with his arm in a sling, and he too might be lost for some time. He is scheduled to under go test on Monday as well. The Chargers certainly hope for the best as the team has just been killed by injuries all season long. Both Antonio Gates and Eric Weddle were absent for the Raiders game and each are not certain to suit up next week in Baltimore against the Ravens.

The Chargers have already suffered this season with injuries to D.J. Fluker, Chris Watt, Chris Hairston and King Dunlap on the offensive line. They also have lost Jason Verrett, Jahleel Addae, Brandon Flowers and Manti Te’o on the defensive side of the ball to injury at some point. Truly horrific, but that is incredibly not the end of it. The team has also lost Steven Johnson, Ladarius Green, Melvin Gordon, Keenan Allen and Jacoby Jones on offense at some point this 2015 season.

Injuries are a part of the game of football, but it seems as though the Chargers have been especially punished. There is not much the team can do. A 2-5 record is not what the team envisioned when the season began but that is the reality that they face in front of them. The road is long and dark, and with fan support dwindling, I’m not sure this season can be salvaged.

Losing Perryman and Franklin could be the dagger in the heart. Franklin’s injury looked especially bad, and it will be tough for him to return any time soon. Peryman had filled in admirably for Te’o and his growth will be stunted if he is forced to miss any time. With Te’o and Perryman both out the Chargers will be in trouble at middle linebacker. Donald Butler is still healthy but he hasn’t been very consistent at the position since re-signing last off-season.

As a Chargers fan, all you can do is hope for the best. Hope for the best with the injuries this team has suffered and hope for the best in term of the future of this franchise. The Chargers fans are getting a raw deal and the reality of the potential move is starting to hit them. It will take an unseen force to save this franchise and its 2015 season.
