Chargers News: Malcom Floyd & Stevie Johnson Injured
The most brutal of NFL injuries has struck the San Diego Chargers as the team has lost veteran wide receiver Malcom Floyd. The lanky wide out was injured early in the first half after making a 20 yard catch from the arm of Philip Rivers over the middle of the field. He galloped off the field after the hit, but was ushered into the locker room by Chargers personnel immediately.
Floyd has proven to be one of Rivers most trusted receivers over the years. The two came into the league together and are very close personal friends. Floyd’s injury resulted in Dontrelle Inman getting his first catch of the year. Inman will replace Floyd for the time being, it is not known how long Floyd will be out.
Last season was the first time in Floyd’s 11 year career that he played and started in all 16 games for the Chargers. Over the years, there have been multiple injuries which have sidelined Floyd. The 2014 season Floyd totaled 52 catches for 856 yards and scored six touch downs.
The 34 year old from the University of Wyoming announced earlier in the year this would be his last. Hopefully this injury does not linger and Floyd is given an opportunity to come back and play productively for the Chargers. Losing him for an extended time would be rough for the Bolts.
Steven Johnson was also lost to a hamstring injury early in the second half. He was seen on the sidelines attempting to stretch it out, but his return is questionable at best. Johnson has played well for the Chargers early this year, so his loss will also be huge if it is for an extended period of time.
Losing both receivers will be tough for the Chargers moving forward. Hopefully neither will be sidelined when the Pittsburgh Steelers come to town next Monday night. That game does signify the return of Antonio Gates. Having him back in the lineup will be a huge addition for the Chargers.
