The San Diego Padres nightmare of a 2016 season continues as Austin Hedges will require surgery on his injured left hand and be out 6-8 weeks. The injury was first reported as a bruise but a broken Hamate bone will sideline the young catcher.

The Padres have had horrible luck this season with injuries. Cory Spangenberg, Tyson Ross, Yangervis Solarte and Robbie Erlin have all gone down with injuries. It is a tough time for Padres fans.

Derek Norris will be the man now for the Padres and there will be no doubts about it. The rumors swirling about a potential deal might have had an effect on his start of the season. The gritty catcher should be entrenched as the start for the next few months.

Padres fans have to wonder how long Hedges will be out and if the injury will sidetrack his development. This was to be a growth year for Hedges and he has to be extremely frustrated. The Padres luckily acquired Christian Bethancourt in the offseason so this injury does not affect the major league team.
