Xolos Femenil 2018 Apertura: Club Tijuana Ladies Suffer Third Consecutive Loss
The Tijuana Xolos women’s team hosted Toluca at the Estadio Caliente for their sixth game of the Liga MX Femenil 2018 Apertura season.
Xolos Feemnil had lost their last two games and really needed a win to get back on track.
Unfortunately, this was not accomplished as Toluca picked up a 2-1 win at the Estadio Caliente. The game was very close and competitive for most of the 90 minutes. Inglis Hernandez scored her fourth goal of the season in the 15th minute to give the Club Tijuana ladies the early lead.
That lead lasted for most of the game, but Andrea Rodebaugh’s players stumbled in the last few minutes of the match. Toluca head coach Juan Mendoza was thrown out of the game in the 37th minute and defender Karla Zempoalteca received a red card in the 59th minute.
Even with an extra player on the field, Xolos Femenil made crucial errors that led to their third consecutive loss this season. The border city team gave up a penalty in the 67th minute and Yamile Franco scored it to tie the game.
Las Diablas Rojas kept on attacking and the Xolos’ defense gave up too much space to their opponents. Mariel Roman took advantage of this and scored from an outside-of-the-box shot that beat Itzel Gonzalez. That goal proved to be the game winner in the 76th minute as Xolos Femenil failed to take advantage of Toluca’s red card.
The result was a disappointing one as the Club Tijuana ladies now have a three-game losing streak that includes two games at home.
Xolos Femenil is now fifth in Group 1 of the Liga MX Femenil and will need to step it up to make the playoffs.
