Fourth round picks aren’t guaranteed success, but the Padres may have found a decent pick in this morning’s draft.

With pick #108 of the 2017 MLB Draft, the Padres took Sam Keating

He is someone to keep an eye on in the near future. The young right-hander has a decent mid-90’s fastball with developing secondary pitches. He will add to the pitching depth in the Padres’ farm system.

A.J. Preller has, in the past, received great value from picks during these middle rounds, so we will have to wait and see if this young man can blossom.

He has the ability, but putting it all together is on him.

You cannot argue his ability, as he was all over everyone’s draft list in these 3rd-5th round projections.

Here is some video of the young man in action.

He has a fluid motion, but his arm angle might need to be altered.

The San Diego Padre have now made five selections in the draft and with each you can see the reasoning.

The two catchers will provide depth, while Mason House will give the team an athlete with the potential to stick in center field.

The last video of him shows his ability to pound the strike zone. It is an older video but you can plainly see the pop he has on his fastball.

If the Padres are indeed going to be relevant, then they need to get lucky with some of these mid-round picks.

Pick #138 is the team’s next selection. Where will they go from here?
