Tijuana Xolos start rough stretch of games in Toluca
The Tijuana Xolos will play their eighth game in the Liga MX 2024 Clausura season this Sunday, February 24, at the Estadio Nemesio Diez against Toluca.
Club Tijuana is coming off a hard-fought 3-3 draw against Atletico San Luis in a match where the Border City Dogs showed plenty of life.
The Aztec Canines led the game 2-1 at halftime in that match, then went on to trail 3-2 before coming back via a goal by Lucas Rodriguez to tie it three all. Lucas Rodriguez and Efrain Alvarez worked magnificently together in that match and it will be intriguing to see how they can work ton generate offense in this match.
Club Tijuana is in dire need of a win from this match, but it is also unlikely based on the border city team’s disastrous away record. Toluca has been an inconsistent team at certain points of the season, butĀ Los Diablos RojosĀ have won all three games at home in this 2024 Clausura tournament.
Toluca has a very exciting attack featuring players like Jean Meneses, Marcel Ruiz, and Alexis Vega. Goalkeeper Tiago Volpi has been inconsistent this season, but he is still one of the top-tier shot-stoppers in the league. Toluca is typically a very competitive team, and this 2024 Clausura campaign is no exception, especially when playing at the Estadio Nemesio Diez.
This match against Toluca starts a very rough stretch of games for Club Tijuana, as the Border City Dogs then play two games at home against Monterrey and Leon. After that two-game homestand, the Aztec Canines will then travel to Mexico City to face Pumas UNAM at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario. With Tijuana’s current form, this stretch of games does not seem very promising and it will be interesting to see the potential consequences to Miguel Herrera’s time at the club.
“Piojo” Herrera is on the hot seat and this first game against Toluca is an important one with the upcoming schedule that the Xoloitzcuintles will need to face.
