The Tijuana Xolos announced a pair of signings this weekend ahead of the Liga MX 2023 Apertura season, which starts on Friday, June 30, for the Aztec Canines.

The Xolos previously announced the signings of Diego Barbosa and Christian River and now announced the signings of Carlos Gonzalez from Toluca and Fernando Madrigal from Necaxa.

Carlos Gonzalez is a 30-year-old Paraguayan striker who has been playing in the Liga MX since 2017. The South American forward has played with Necaxa, Pumas UNAM, Tigres UANL, and Toluca in Mexico’s top-flight league. “Cocoliso” had a successful 2023 Clausura season, scoring eight goals and providing two assists for Toluca in 17 games played.

Club Tijuana had attacking options in the last campaign with players like Alexis Canelo and Lucas Cavallini but failed to find much consistency throughout the season. The Border City Dogs only scored 19 goals last season, which was tied for the fifth worst in the Liga MX.

Gonzalez is a Liga MX veteran who excels in his aerial abilities and provides a massive physical presence much like Lucas Cavallini.

Fernando Madrigal is a 31-year-old Mexican midfielder who played in 16 games with Necaxa in the 2023 Clausura season. The Guanajuato native has played in Liga MX with Pachuca, Atletico San Luis, Queretaro, Club America, and Necaxa.

I'd like this amount to

Madrigal has an extensive career in Mexican soccer that dates back to 2011 and has the potential to be an important player in Xolos’ midfield. The veteran midfielder definitely excels in the more defensive side of the game, as he had no goals and no assists in the 2023 Clausura campaign.

Miguel Herrera and Club Tijuana continue to add signings ahead of the next season after a highly disappointing 2023 Clausura season. The Xolitzcuintles’ weakness was definitely in the backline, but there are signings required in all areas of the team to become competitive in the Liga MX 2023 Apertura season.

The potential for more signings for Club Tijuana is present as the days count down to the start of the Liga MX 2023 Apertura season. The Tijuana Xolos will start their season at the Estadio Caliente on Friday, June 30, as they host Pumas UNAM in a match that is expected to be filled with a great atmosphere at the “Mictlan.”
