San Diego Padres winter league report for December 4th.

There were several men in action for the Padres throughout the globe on Wednesday.

Here is your recap of the day’s events.

Dominican Winter League

Ivan Castillo– (1-3) BB, 2 K’s

The versatile infielder is hitting .268 on the season in the Dominican Republic. He played second base for Leones de Escogido on Wednesday and went 1-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts. Castillo should start the 2020 season in Triple-A and could factor for the Padres at some point during the season.

Manuel Margot– (1-4) Run, K

Margot recorded his first hit of the season on Wednesday in a 1-for-4 effort. He is hitting .111  so far in the Dominican Winter League. He played centerfield for the Toros de Este and will likely get a month or so of at-bats on the island before the spring. Margot really needs to find some consistency for the Padres to utilize him on an everyday basis.

Webster Rivas– (0-2)

The right-handed hitter is at .167 for the season in the Dominican. He is playing for the Gigantes de Cibao as his defensive skill is admired. Rivas has some power to his bat but does not profile as an offensive threat. He adds to the Padres incredible depth at the catching position in the minors.

Mexican Winter League

Esteban Quiroz– (3-5) 2 HR, 4 RBI, 3 Runs, K

Quiroz slugged two homers tonight for the Caneros de los Mochis. He is batting .333 on the season. The second baseman has power and looked poised to earn some playing time for the Padres in 2020. The Jurickson Profar trade puts that in question, but Quiroz is a gamer and will grind his way to the majors eventually.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Jordy Barley– (0-3) Run, BB, 3 K

The young infielder is hitting .250 on the season in Australia. He played third base and batted leadoff on Wednesday night/Thursday morning for the Canberra Cavalry. Barley is showing that his skills are sharpening. He may be on the verge of a breakout of sorts.

Taylor Kohlwey– (1-3) 2B, Run

The left-handed hitter is batting .233 on the year for Canberra. He played right field in the game and went 1-for-3 with a double.

Jonny Homza– (1-4) RBI, 3 K

Homza played third base for the Auckland Tuatara on Wednesday night/Thursday morning. He is hitting .222 on the season.
