Padres Winter League Report: December 4 & 5 (Asuaje Debuts in D.R.)

A very slow day this week around the globe in terms of winter league action for the Padres.

Monday was an off day for all five leagues. Tuesday saw three out of the five leagues with no scheduled games.

The Panamanian winter league started this week. Both Javy Guerra and Allen Cordoba are teammates there. Information about the league is scarce. We will try to keep you updated on these two infielders as well in these winter league reports.

Here is a recap of Tuesday and Wednesday’s action in the other five leagues:

Tuesday, December 4

Dominican winter league

Franchy Cordero– (1-3) BB, K

Cordero went 1-for-3 with a walk on Tuesday. He is hitting .309 this season for the Leones.

Carlos Asuaje– (0-3) BB, K

Making his debut in the Dominican Republic, Asuaje played second base and went hitless.

Fernando Tatis Jr.– (2-4) 2B,  2 Runs

Tatis is up to .286 on the season after a 2-for-4 game. The young shortstop has been playing well for the Estrellas in the D.R.

Puerto Rican winter league

Venezuelan winter league

No games scheduled

Mexican winter league

No Padres’ players in action

Australian Baseball League

No games scheduled

Wednesday, December 5

Dominican winter league

Fernando Tatis Jr.– (0-3) 2 K

Tatis struck out twice on Wednesday and is now hitting .271 on the year in the Dominican Republic.

Puerto Rican winter league

Aldemar Burgos– (0-4) Run, 2 K

Outfielder Aldemar Burgos continues to swing the bat well. He is at .308 for the season in Puerto Rico.

Colby Blueberg– 1.2 IP, K

Blueberg has a 3.60 ERA in Puerto Rico. The right-handed pitcher could eventually be a factor for the Padres in the bullpen.

Venezuelan winter league

Franchy Cordero– (0-3) BB, K

Franchy went 0-for-3 on Wednesday and is hitting .296 on the year.

Carlos Asuaje– (1-4)

Asuaje got his first hit of the winter league on Wednesday and is now hitting .143 in his first two games for the Leones.

Luis Torrens– (0-0)

Torrens entered the game on Wednesday as a pinch-runner and remained in the game to catch. He is hitting .366 on the year in Venezuela.

Mexican winter league
