Here is your San Diego Padres winter league report for December 3rd.

Several San Diego Padres’ players are participating in various winter leagues around the globe.

Here is your recap of the day’s events.

Dominican Winter League

Ivan Castillo– (2-4) 2 Runs, BB, SB

The reigning Texas League batting champion is heating up in the D.R. Castillo is up to .266 with his average after a slow start to the season. He played second base in the game on Tuesday and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Webster Rivas– (2-3) 2B, Run

The defensive-minded catcher has a .179 average so far for the Gigantes de Cibao. He recorded two hits on Tuesday, including a double. The Padres have plenty of catching depth in the minors, and Rovas just adds to that fact.

Franchy Cordero– (2-5) Run, 2 K

Cordero made his debut in the Dominican Republic and batted fourth for the Leones de Escogido. He played left field in the game in his first taste of the action and recorded two hits. Health will be a big concern for Cordero and the Padres. He has battled constant injuries throughout his brief professional career.

Jesse Scholtens– 3.2 IP, 2 H, BB, 3 K

Scholtens still has a 0.00 ERA for the Aguilas Cibaenes in the Dominican Republic. He threw 3 2/3 innings of scoreless ball on Tuesday as Scholtens looks to make a mark in the island league. The right-handed pitcher is organizational depth at this point for the Padres.

Manuel Margot– (0-5) 2 K

Margot made his debut in the D.R. on Tuesday. He played centerfield and batted 6th for the Toros de Este. The right-handed hitter is looking for consistency in his bat as the 2020 season is right around the corner. Margot went 0-for-5 in the game and struck out twice.

Mexican Winter League

Esteban Quiroz– (1-3) 2B, 2 RBIs, Run, K

Quiroz is off to a .143 start for the Caneros de los Mochis. He played second base and made a throwing error in the game. The scrappy infielder is close to Major League action and will surely be invited to Padres’ Major League camp during the spring.

Gerardo Reyes– (Save) 1 IP, 2 H, K

Reyes recorded his 5th save of the year for the Yaquis de Obregon on Tuesday. He has a 1.13 ERA so far this season and has been consistently clocked in the upper 90s with his fastball velocity. Reyes should factor in the Padres’ bullpen for the 2020 season.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Michael Gettys– (0-3) K

Gettys is hitting .184 on the year for the Indios de Mayaguez. The right-handed outfielder continues to battle strikeout issues as he struck out once on Tuesday in an 0-for-3 effort at the plate. The Padres can only hope he figures it out at some point.
