We are down to the wire in the Ohtani sweepstakes.
The last few days have been stressful for Padre fans, as the Japanese wonder has met with the team and is apparently weighing his options. The Padres are one of seven teams that he has chosen.
Patrick and I had some time this evening, so we decided to throw together a little pod on Ohtani.
We discuss the recent trades of the Angels and Mariners to add more international money. Both teams traded away viable prospects for an extra $1 million dollars from the Minnesota Twins. Immediately Padre fans assumed the worst, but we aren’t convinced that the Padres are dead.
What is Ohtani’s ceiling? We discuss how many at bats he could get and what kind of play we could expect if the Padres were able to secure his services.
We give our odds on signing him. You might be surprised.
The decision should come quickly from Ohtani. We can all only hope he chooses the Padres, as Patrick states in the end of the pod. Stay Positive San Diego.
