The Padres EVT Podcast brings back Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs.

He just finished up his top-10 list for the San Diego Padres, so we thought it was the perfect opportunity to bring him on in and discuss the list.

As we all know, FanGraphs is a very reliable site to gather information of everything baseball. Eric is the lead prospect analyst and has seen many of these young players firsthand. He knows the Padres’ system very well and has seen many of, if not all, the players on his list.

We go through his top-10 player by player as he gives us his thoughts on Eric Lauer, Luis Urias, Logan Allen, Jacob Nix, Adrian Morejon, Cal Quantrill, Michel Baez, Anderson Espinoza, Mackenzie Gore, and Fernando Tatis Jr. This group is very impressive and it is awesome hearing his thoughts on all these young men.

Michel Baez is discussed in-depth, as Eric tells us what he has seen from this young man. He is extremely impressed with Baez, and can see a very high ceiling with this prospect. We talk about Baez’ delivery and his frame. It is very fascinating hearing how Eric views this young man. Needless to say, he is excited for his future.

We go through the top 10 in-depth, but Eric also gives us some information on Josh Naylor, Austin Allen, Michael Gettys, and Chris Paddack.

In the 2017 draft the Padres selected Gore, Luis Campusano, and Blake Hunt with their first three picks. Eric gives us some extended thoughts on Mackenzie, who he likes very much. He also gives us his thoughts on the two young catchers, which is interesting to hear.

This was a quality show. Eric Longenhagen is one of the best in the business and he is very high on the Padres’ system. In fact, in closing, I asked him about the future of this system, being that it is so young. He proclaimed that the Padres could very well possibly have the best system in all of MLB in the next 12 months. That is an amazing statement.
