In this 17th episode of the Padres EVT Podcast we bring you Dan Farnsworth of FanGraphs. Dan is the lead prospect analyst for the site and he provides excellent coverage of all the major league teams including our San Diego Padres.

We learn a little bit about Dan and how he came into the area of baseball that he is in. He tells us a little bit about FanGraphs and how the site has really blossomed in the past few years. The new era of baseball analytics is here and site like FanGraphs are leading the way in educating this new belief system.

The three of us discuss the Kimbrel trade and the haul the Padres got in return for the closer. Dan likes Manuel Margot and Logan Allen very much, but is down on Javier Guerra. We ask him about that and he explains his thought process. Very interesting stuff to hear. Allen is someone Dan loves Allen very much and he even has him listed as the Padres fourth best prospect.

Being that Dan is the lead prospect analyst we had to ask him about many of the current Padres prospects. Hunter Renfroe, Austin Hedges and Travis Jankowski are all discussed. We also find out his views of Michael Gettys and Colin Rea. Dan likes Rea very much and thinks he could be a decent major league pitcher.

Of course we ask Dan about Jabari Blash and the phenomenon that has swept America’s Finest City. He is not sold completely on Blash and provides some sound logic on what his over all ability is. The young slugger has power, but he is not the youngest of prospects and his ceiling has limitations.

The analysis of Jacob Nix and Austin Smith is discussed. Each second year pitcher is a Padres top prospect. They both have similar builds and stuff so we ask Dan his thoughts on each and where he thinks both pitchers will find themselves eventually.

We wish to thank Dan Farnsworth for participating in our podcast. We always enjoy gathering information about the Padres from people who have no rooting interest in the team. Having a completely honest opinion is vital is knowing exactly where the Padres minor league players stand. Enjoy the podcast and let us know if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
