San Diego Padres affiliates went 0-1 on Sunday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 4-1 to Oklahoma City) (51-79 on the season)

SS Ivan Castillo – 2-for-4, RBI

2B Yorman Rodriguez – 2-for-4

1B Patrick Kivlehan – 3-for-4, K

SP Luke Westphal – 4.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K

On the last day of the season for the El Paso Chihuahuas, the offense failed to show up in a 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Triple-A affiliate.  The Dodgers got off to an early 2-0 lead after a two-run bottom of the fifth started off the scoring and set the tone for the remainder of the game.

The lone El Paso run came the following half-inning, in the top of the sixth inning, thanks to an RBI single from shortstop Ivan Castillo.  The run-scoring single would cut the Dodgers’ lead to 2-1, which is as close as the Chihuahuas would get.  Though they were able to total seven hits on the day, the single run in the top of the sixth was the only run El Paso would score the rest of the day.

After a couple of sac flies pushed the Oklahoma City lead from 2-1 to 4-1, the Dodger bullpen would buckle up and hold on to their three-run lead, and cruise to a victory by the same margin. The Chihuahuas made things interesting with back-to-back singles to start off the top of the ninth, but Oklahoma City relievers quickly shut down any hope of a rally, getting the next three batters out.

The Chihuahua’s season ends in disappointing fashion, with the team reaching the 79-loss total for the season.  Through a lot of ups and downs on the season, the team ends with a 51-79 record and will look to come back strong in 2022.
