San Diego Padres affiliates went 6-2 on Thursday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (52-34) Won 9-6

The Chihuahuas continue to slug home runs at an amazing rate. The team slugged four more on Thursday in a 9-6 win over the Salt Lake Bees. Michael Gettys now has 22 homers on the season and a .824 OPS for the Chihuahuas. He is hitting .318 over his last ten games with three homers and 12 RBI’s. Jerry Keel earned the win and is now 6-3 on the year with a 6.51 ERA. The left-handed pitcher is versatile and could be an option for the Padres eventually.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (40-2) Won 9-1

Lake Bachar was magnificent on Thursday in a 9-1 win over the Frisco RoughRiders. He went 7 2/3 innings pitched and struck out nine in the game. His ERA is 3.63 now on the year in 15 games for the Sod Poodles. Ivan Castillo has a .881 OPS now after a 2-for-5 game on Thursday. The switch-hitting second baseman has a .341 batting average for Amarillo. The Sod Poodles totaled 13 hits in the win.

Lake Elsinore Storm (43-40) Won 10-0

Lake Elsinore pounded the Lancaster Jets by the score of 10-0 on Thursday. Reiss Knehr, a 22-year-old right-handed pitcher, threw six innings of scoreless ball. The Storm knocked out 13 hits in the win as every hitter in the starting lineup except for Esteury Ruiz recorded a hit. Gabriel Arias went 3-for-4, and three other hitters recorded two hits in the win. Jack Suwinski slugged a homer in the eighth which was his sixth of the year.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (37-45) Lost 4-1

Fort Wayne only managed four hits in a 4-1 loss to the Lake County Captains. Blake Hunt recorded two of the hits himself and is hitting .415 over his last ten games. Sam Keating made a great start for the TinCaps and lowered his ERA to 4.87 on the year. The right-handed pitcher went seven innings and allowed four unearned runs for the TinCaps. Carlos Belen, a converted infielder, has recorded a 0.75 ERA over his last ten games. He started the year roughly but has come on strong featuring an upper 90’s fastball with movement.

Tri-City Dust Devils (10-11) Lost 6-2

Connor Lehman allowed his first earned runs of his professional career as the Dust Devils lost 6-2 at the hands of the Boise Hawks. The Padres seventh-round pick went 2 1/3 innings pitched and let two runs score. Starlin Castro followed Lehman out of the pen, and the hard-thrower struck out four batters in 1 2/3 innings pitched. Sean Guilbe hit his second homer in the loss. Tri-City only managed six hits in the loss.

AZL Padres 1 (10-4) Won 9-5

An eight-run fifth inning propelled the AZL Padres to a 9-5 victory on Thursday night. Miguel Rondon lasted four innings for the Padres and allowed three earned runs to score. The 18-year-old pitcher from Venezuela is 0-1 this season with a 6.55 ERA. CJ Abrams continues to tear it up in the desert. He has a 1.142 OPS and a .467 average through his first 13 games. He should be sent to Tri-City soon. 19th-round pick Chris Givin has kept pace with Abrams, as he owns a 1.138 OPS and a .455 average through his first 13 games. The 22-year-old right-handed hitting former Xavier shortstop should also be promoted very soon.

AZL Padres 2 (10-4) Won 9-6

The AZL Padres scored five runs in the fifth inning capped by a Kelvin Alarcon double and never looked back in a 9-6 victory over the AZL D-backs. 18-year-old Carlos Guarate made a start on Thursday and went four innings, allowing two earned runs. The Venezuelan native now has a 3.12 ERA in the desert. Left-hander Fernando Sanchez earned the win pitching in relief. The 18-year-old from Mexico has a 4.50 ERA and is now 2-0 over four games. Michael Cantu, a 23-year-old right-handed hitting catcher, went 3-for-4 and scored a run in the victory.

DSL Padres (13-16) Won 9-2

The DSL Padres got four runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth to pull away from the DSL Orioles in a 9-2 victory on Thursday. 18-year-old Dominican right-handed pitcher Luis Crisostomo pitched four innings of baseball and did not allow an earned run. He has a 4.00 ERA in six games for the DSL team. Jessel Soto, a 17-year-old right-handed pitcher with great size (6-foot-4) from Venezuela, earned a win in the game after throwing two innings of baseball. He has a 2.45 ERA in nine games for the team and could be a pitcher to keep an eye on. The offensive hero on Thursday was shortstop Charlis Aquino who is 17 and a right-handed hitter out of San Cristbal in the Dominican Republic. Albert Fabian, who is also 17 went 3-for-5 in the game and now has 12 RBI’s on the season. This DSL squad has some really talented young players.

  1. Was literally at the game in salt lake. While El Paso did hit well, they actually lost 9-6 to Salt Lake.
