The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres went 3-5 on Saturday.

Here is a brief recap of the day’s action.

El Paso Chihuahuas Lost 11-2 (63-43)

The Las Vegas Aviators ambushed El Paso starter Jerry Keel en route to an 11-2 victory. Keel pitched 5.2 innings and allowed nine runs on nine hits while walking four and striking out eight. However, eight of those nine runs came in the first three innings of the game. The only runs for the Chihuahuas came from a first-inning RBI triple by Josh Naylor and a seventh-inning solo home run by Webster Rivas. Naylor and Travis Jankowski both had multiple hits for the Chihuahuas in the losing effort. Outfielder Boog Powell pitched the ninth inning and allowed a run on two hits.

Amarillo Sod Poodles Won 4-0 (54-49)

The Sod Poodles picked up all the runs they needed in the third inning in the victory against the Naturals. Hudson Potts picked up the first run of the game by slapping an RBI groundout to score Luis Torrens. A Brad Zunica double and Rodrigo Orozco single drove in the other two runs in the third inning. Luis Torrens, who threw out two would-be base stealers, hit his tenth home run of the season in the fifth inning to pad the lead to 4-0. Jesse Scholtens, Kazuhiza Makita, and Evan Miller combined to pitch a shutout for the Soddies. Keep an eye out for Miller in the future, as his performance in both Amarillo and Lake Elsinore could make him a candidate for the San Diego bullpen in the very near future.

Lake Elsinore Storm Won 4-3 (54-51)

For the second straight game, the Lake Elsinore Storm won in walk-off fashion. This time, it was an Esteury Ruiz sacrifice fly to score Jalen Washington in the tenth inning to win the ballgame. With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Gabriel Arias slapped his eleventh home run to put the Storm ahead. However, after Hansel Rodriguez allowed two men to get on base, Jordan Guerrero allowed the tying run to score before escaping the inning with a strikeout leading to extra innings and Ruiz’ walk-off hit. Osvaldo Hernandez pitched three shutout innings as the starter while striking out two.

Fort Wayne TinCaps Lost 14-7 (44-58)

Efrain Contreras saw six batters in his start against the Dayton Dragons. Two got on via a walk and four collected base hits en route to scoring six runs in the first inning before an out was recorded. Brandon Komar didn’t fare as well either, laboring through a seven-run second inning before settling down. By the time Fort Wayne scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning on a Justin Lopez home run, they were already down 13-3. Jawuan Harris hit a two-run double in the seventh while Michael Curry hit a two-run homer in the eighth.

Tri-City Dust Devils Won 11-4 (18-25)

Thanks to an onslaught of 20 hits and 11 runs, the Dust Devils cruised to a huge victory. Jordy Barley had a day to remember, going 5-for-6 with two home runs and two doubles along with four RBIs. Sean Gulibe, Kelvin Alarcon, Reinaldo Ilarraza also cleared the fence while collecting multiple hits. Tri-City hitters collected 12 extra-base hits on the night. Starter Nick Thwaits pitched 4.1 innings and allowed four runs while striking out five. Dan Dallas, Wen-Hua Sung, and Mason Fox combined to pitch 4.2 scoreless innings of relief.

AZL Padres 1 Lost 8-1 (19-13)

The AZL Padres 1 failed to crack the AZL Royals pitching while the Padres pitching got hit hard. Noel Vela pitched one inning and allowed three runs while Jesus Gonzales pitched four innings and allowed five runs on six hits. Reliever Sam Ballard stopped the bleeding by pitching three innings of scoreless relief while striking out four. The only Padres run scored in the third inning when Tirso Ornelas reached on a fielding error that allowed Brandon Valenzuela to score.

AZL Padres 2 Lost 26-17 (20-12)

Today’s game was not much of a game as it was glorified batting practice for both teams. The AZL Padres and AZL Dodgers combined for 43 runs on 43 hits while every starter on the Padres got at least one hit in the affair. Each San Diego pitcher allowed at least one run to cross the plate, with shortstop Juan Garcia pitching the ninth inning and allowing eight runs to score. The AZL Padres committed seven errors in the game which allowed seven unearned runs to score.

DSL Padres Lost 3-1 (20-28)

Despite taking the lead in the first inning, the DSL Padres couldn’t keep it and fell to the DSL Reds. Reginald Dowston took the second pitch of the game and drove it past the left-field fence to put the Padres ahead. However, the Reds took the lead against Abismael Paulino who, despite pitching seven innings and striking out five batters, took the loss by surrendering three runs on two home runs.
