Padres Down on the Farm: July 28 (Allen homers in El Paso/Mosser pitches well for LE/Barley two homers)

San Diego Padres affiliates went 3-2 on Sunday. All three rookie-level teams were off for the day.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (63-43) Lost 10-1

The Chihuahuas were trounced 10-1 by the Las Vegas Aviators on Sunday. The Padres keep giving Bryan Mitchell a chance, and he keeps getting knocked around, His ERA is up to 13.72 now after allowing six earned runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched. Austin Allen was the hitting hero, going 2-for-4 with his 14th homer of the year. He has his OPS at .961 on the year now in the PCL. Travis Jankowski recorded three hits and has a .333 average in El Paso.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (54-50) Lost 3-1

Northwest Arkansas got three runs in the third, and that was enough in a 3-1 victory over the Soddies. Amarillo managed nine hits but left nine men on base going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Lake Bachar pitched well but was given the loss after allowing three runs in six innings pitched. Dauris Valdez threw the last two innings, striking out three and lowering his ERA to 5.05 in the year. Luis Torrens went 2-for-4 and has a .841 OPS so far in the Texas League.

Lake Elsinore Storm (55-51) Won 4-3

Lake Elsinore was victorious on another walk-off, as Allen Cordoba singled in Xavier Edwards in the 11th inning for a 4-3 win against the Inland Empire 66ers. Gabe Mosser started the game and was very good, striking out nine in six innings of work. He only allowed a run and five hits in the game and now has a 3.38 ERA in the Cal League. Allen Cordoba went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Xavier Edwards is heating up going 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Elliot Ashbeck pitched 3 1/3 innings of perfect ball to record the win. He has a 3.04 ERA now on the year.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (45-58) Won 7-1

The TinCaps won 7-1 over the Dayton Dragons on Sunday. 21-year-old Dana Cullen started the game and went 5 2/3 innings for the TinCaps. He struck out two and has a 3.12 ERA so far in the Midwest League. Ethan Skender hit his first professional homer in a 3-for-4 day at the plate. He has battled injuries the past two seasons and is really making the most out of his opportunities now with the Padres. The 22-year-old second baseman is someone to keep an eye on moving forward.

Tri-City Dust Devils (19-25) Won 12-9

The Dust Devils won a 12-9 slugfest against the Everett AquaSox on Sunday. Six homers from Tri-City were the difference in the victory. Jordy Barley homered twice, as did Sean Guilbe. The Dust Devils managed 15 hits in the game. Ignacio Feliz was beaten up a bit in his start allowing five earned runs in four innings pitched. Starlin Cordero was awarded the win after throwing three innings for Tri-City.
