  • C Alison Quintero has been assigned to San Antonio.
The San Diego Padres, minor league affiliates, went 2-1 on Wednesday, with the San Antonio Missions having its game suspended due to rain.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost to Sugar Land Space Cowboys 8-1) (47-63 on the season)

Matt Waldron: 5 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 4 K (88 pitches, 61 strikes)

Matthew Batten: (1-for-4), R

Brett Sullivan: (2-for-4), 2B, RBI

Not a lot went right for El Paso in the 18-1 defeat they suffered on Tuesday evening. Wednesday was more of the same for the Chihuahuas as Sugar Land jumped on Matt Waldron for a pair of three-run innings in the second and third frames. David Hensley and Luke Berryhill combined to go 3-for-6 with four runs scored, a double, a home run, four runs batted in, a pair of walks, and a pair of stolen bases.

Ronel Blanco dominated the Chihuahuas as he struck out eight in seven shutout innings, allowing just two base runners. Brett Sullivan doubled in Matthew Batten in the bottom of the ninth to avoid the shutout. Sullivan is now hitting .332 (.939 OPS) in 49 games this season with El Paso.

San Antonio Missions (Game suspended due to rain) (53-50 on the season)

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Defeated Lansing Lugnuts 9-5) (54-50 on the season)

Edwuin Bencomo: 3.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 4 K (73 pitches, 53 strikes)

Graham Pauley: (2-for-4), R, HR, 4 RBI

Kervin Pichardo: (1-for-3), 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, HBP, SB

Nerwillian Cedeño: (2-for-5), R, 2B, RBI

Jakob Marsee: (2-for-5), R, 2B, RBI, SB

Ethan Salas made his TinCaps debut on Wednesday afternoon. The Padres #2 prospect became just the 6th position player since 2006 to record a plate appearance at the High-A level at the age of 17. Salas joins a red-hot TinCaps team, including Kervin Pichardo, who reached base in the third inning via hit by pitch. After stealing second base, Jakob Marsee singled, just off the glove by the Lugnuts second baseman Joshwan Wright, scoring Pichardo. A batter later, Nerwillian Cedeño scored Marsee with a double to right field, making it 2-0.

TinCaps starter Edwuin Bencomo struggled to get outs in the fourth inning and was pulled after 73 pitches for Michel Baez (on rehab assignment from San Antonio). Bencomo gave up four runs on seven hits. Brennan Milone made it 5-2 with a solo homer in the fifth inning.

Salas got his first hit in the sixth inning, a single up the middle to open up the frame. Nathan Martorella and Cedeño followed with singles of their own to load the bases for the hottest hitter in minor league baseball. Graham Pauley made the Lugnuts pay with his 13th home run in 35 games since getting called up. The grand slam also took the lead for Fort Wayne. Pichardo capped off the big inning with a three-run blast of his own to make it 9-5. Will Geerdes threw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to pick up his third save.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Defeated Visalia Rawhide 2-1) (49-52 on the season)

Jose Luis Reyes: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 9 K (88 pitches, 54 strikes)

Samuel Zavala: (1-for-2), R, RBI, BB, HBP

Jay Beshears: (1-for-4), RBI

Jose Luis Reyes turned in one of his best outings of the season, striking out nine in 5.1 innings. The right-hander allowed just one run, a double to left field in the very first inning. His counterpart served him well however, Ricardo Yan string out nine as well in seven innings. Yan did allow a bases-loaded walk to Samuel Zavala in the third inning to tie the game, though.

Zavala worked a 3-2 count before getting hit to open the bottom of the ninth inning. Rosman Verdugo laid down a bunt to move Zavala to second, but a bad throw allowed him to reach as well. Devin Ortiz followed with a bunt of his own to put runners in scoring position with one out for Jay Beshears, who walked it off with a single to right field.
