Padres Down on the Farm: August 21 (Austin Allen walk-off hit for El Paso/Campusano walk-off homer for LE)

San Diego Padres affiliates went 4-4 on Wednesday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (75-53) Won 9-8

Austin Allen came off the bench to give the Chihuahuas a 9-8 walk-off win over the Fresno Grizzlies. Allen went 2-for-2 in the game and drove in Aderlin Rodriguez for the victory. Rodriguez homered in the contest and went 3-for-5 in the game. That was Rodriguez’ 18th homer of the season. He owns a 1.052 OPS this year in the PCL. Boog Powell went 3-for-4 in the game, and Michael Gettys went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Dietrich Enns started the game, but the bullpen blew his chance for a win. Travis Radke had a rough night, allowing four runs (all unearned) on three hits in an innings work. El Paso committed five errors in the game.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (66-60) Lost 4-3

In 11 innings, the Soddies lost to the Tulsa Drillers. Nick Kuzia allowed a run to score in the 11th on an Omar Estevez sacrifice fly with one out. Jesse Scholtens started the game and went six innings for Amarillo. He has a 5.37 ERA on the season in the Texas League. Javier Guerra made his Double-A debut and pitched a scoreless inning. He struck out one and was clocked as high as 98 mph with his fastball. David Bednar threw two scoreless innings and has his ERA at 3.02 on the season. Hudson Potts tripled and scored a run for Amarillo. Taylor Trammell went 1-for-5 and has yet to breakout for the Sod Poodles. Amarillo went 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position in the game and struck out ten times.

Lake Elsinore Storm (66-60) Won 5-2

The Storm won 5-2 over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Wednesday. Luis Campusano hit a walk-off homer with one out in the 9th inning for the victory. Campusano was 2-for-5 on the night. Campusano blast was his 14th of the season. He now has a .894 OPS this year in Lake Elsinore. Gabriel Arias slugged his 16th homer in the win. Olivier Basabe also went deep in a 1-for-4 game for the infielder. Hansel Rodriguez was given the win as he blew the lead for Lake Elsinore allowing two runs to score for the Quakes in the top of the 9th. Gabe Mosser started but only went four innings in the contest. He has a 4.00 ERA in the Cal League currently.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (57-69) Lost 6-4

The TinCaps bullpen allowed two in the 8th to give the Dragons a 6-4 win. Efrain Contreras started and went five innings, allowing two earned runs. Contreras now has a 3.83 ERA on the year in the Midwest League. Ramon Perez was issued the loss as he allowed two earned runs to score in his one inning of work. Perez has a 6.24 ERA on the season in 12 games for the TinCaps. Ripken Reyes, the former USD Torero, hit a homer in the first inning for the TinCaps and went 2-for-4 on the day. Reyes has a .357 average early in his year at Fort Wayne. Justin Lopez continues to develop, the 19-year-old went 2-for-3 in the game and is hitting .282 (10-for-39) in his last ten games. Ethan Skender drove in a pair of runs and has a .828 OPS this season for the TinCaps.

Tri-City Dust Devils (30-35) Lost 1-0

Tri-City lost 1-0 in 10 innings to Vancouver in a game where both teams totaled nine hits on the night. McGregory Contreras singed off of Deacon Medders for the win. Angel Acevedo started the game and went five innings. Acevedo is struggling now with a 6.54 ERA on the year. Deacon Medders was issues the loss as he allowed one run in two innings of relief. Starlin Cordero threw well on Wednesday, as the 21-year-old struck out six in three innings. Sean Guilbe went 2-for-4 in the loss and has a .792 OPS on the season.

AZL Padres 1 (30-21) Won 6-5

The AZL Padres 1 team won 6-5 against the AZL Dodgers Mota team on Wednesday night. The Padres survived a late rally by the Dodgers to plate the winning run on a Payton Smith homer in the bottom of the 8th inning. The 19-year-old outfielder has great size (6-foot-5) and is starting to figure it out with the bat. Smith has a .310 (10-29) batting average in his last ten games played for the Padres. Joshua Mears, a 2019 draft pick homered for the 6th time this year in the win. 19-year-old Seth Mayberry earned his third save in 18 games this year for the Padres. Mayberry currently has a 2.28 ERA in the desert. Brandon Komar earned the win in the game despite allowing four hits and a run in his lone inning of relief.

AZL Padres 2 (36-16) Won 5-2

The Padres AZL 2 team won 5-2 over the AZL Cubs. Two late runs in the top of the 9th iced the victory for the Padres. Alexuan Vega started the game and went two innings for the Padres. The 20-year-old from Puerto Rico has a 6.26 ERA on the season. Moises Lugo threw four innings of scoreless ball for the Padres and now has a 2.06 ERA on the season in the desert. Lugo is 20 and from the D.R. Emmanuel Guerra was the hitting star in the game as he went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Catcher Gilberto Vizcarra from Mexicali went 2-for-4 in the win and has a .743 OPS on the season for the Padres.

DSL Padres(30-39) Lost 10-0

The DSL Padres were shutout 10-0 by the DSL Orioles on Wednesday morning. 11 Padres batter struck out in the loss as the team went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. 19-year-old Gilberto Sosa started the game and went 3 2/3 innings. Sosa was the victim of bad defense as the Padres committed a costly error in the fourth inning. Shortstop Nerwilian Cedeno booted a groundball resulting in five unearned runs in the inning. Eduard Hidalgo continues to impress. The 17-year-old outfielder went 2-for-3 and stole a base in the loss. Hidalgo has a .721 OPS on the season and is hitting .375 (10-32) in his last ten games. 17-year-old catcher Wilfredo Tovar is also showing an impressive effort in the Dominican Republic. The teenaged backstop has a .924 OPS in 56 at-bats in the DSL.
