San Diego Padres affiliates went 2-1 on Monday as San Antonio, Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore had off-days.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 8-7 vs. Sugar Land F/10) (32-44 on the season)

SS Pedro Florimon – 3-for-5, 2 R, BB

C Webster Rivas – 3-for-5, 2B, 3-run HR, R, BB, 4 RBI

1B Yorman Rodriguez – 2-for-5, HR, 2 R, RBI, K

LF Gosuke Katoh – 3-for-5, 3-run HR

Down three runs in the bottom of the ninth, the El Paso Chihuahuas looked to be heading toward a tough loss to the Sugar Land Skeeters.  After a single and a hit batter put two runners on for El Paso with only one out, San Diego’s own Gosuke Katoh out of Rancho Bernardo High school hit a game-tying three-run home run in dramatic fashion.

Heading into extra innings with the game tied at seven, Webster Rivas capped a huge offensive night with a game-winning RBI single, giving El Paso a comeback 8-7 victory.

Both teams had the offenses on full-attack Monday night, combining for thirty hits and twenty-seven left on base.  Three Chihuahua hitters had three-hit games, including Rivas and Katoh, and two more had two-hit games.

The Dominican League Summer League Padres had quite a back and forth game on Monday, eventually winning on a walk-off hit-by-pitch in a 4-3 victory.  After a 3-0 lead was erased in the top of the 7th and final inning, the Padres had to rally in the bottom half of the inning to earn the win.

Starting pitcher Miguel Mendez was dominant in four innings of work, striking out three without allowing a run.  He now has a 2.57 ERA in 14 innings this summer with a 0.79 WHIP.

The Arizona Summer League Padres fell 6-4 to the ACL Angels on Monday after allowing a six-run bottom of the third inning.  Padres’ starter Victor Lizarraga struggled mightily in his two innings of work, allowing five runs on two hits while walking four.

Padres’ 2021 third-round pick Kevin Kopps, made his professional debut and struck out three in a scoreless inning of work.

The Padres had a quiet night offensively with only five hits, one of which was a two-run single by second baseman Max Ferguson.
