Padres Down on the Farm: August 12 (Pomeranz scoreless inning on rehab/Campusano & Azocar 2 hits for El Paso/Wolf strikes out 10 for FW)

All of the farm was in action for the Padres, and only the El Paso Chihuahuas came away with a victory.

On rehab assignments, Fernando Tatis Jr.’s came to an abrupt end with him leaving the San Antonio Missions after being suspended for PEDs.

Additionally, Drew Pomeranz threw a scoreless inning. 

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 6-4) (60-48)

Luis Campusano- 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB

Jose Azocar- 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Matt Waldron- 3.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Tom Cosgrove- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K

Six runs in the second inning was enough for the El Paso Chihuahuas to get past the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, 6-4. Jose Azocar got it all started with a solo home run, his fourth at Triple-A. Connor Hollis and Eguy Rosario each drove in a run to follow on a single and a sacrifice fly, respectively. Then Taylor Kohlwey doubled home two Chihuahuas before Luis Campusano singled him home to cap the second. Matt Waldron threw three scoreless frames to start before allowing three runs in the fourth inning and not completing it. No runs came across in the fifth, sixth, seventh, or eighth, but Ray Kerr did allow a run in the ninth inning to make things interesting. Alex Jacob struck out one after relieving Kerr in the ninth to get the save.

Jay Groome is the starter for the Chihuahuas on Saturday.

 

San Antonio Missions (Lost 7-0) (54-50)

Tirso Ornelas- 0-4, 2 K

Domingo Leyba- 1-4

Noel Vela- 4.1 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 4 K

Kevin Kopps- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

The San Antonio Missions were shutout while getting just three singles in a 7-0 loss. Domingo Leyba, Juan Fernandez, and Ripken Reyes were the three to get the hits. Noel Vela got the start for San Antonio, and it began well with two scoreless frames. Vela then allowed runs in each of his last three innings, including three in the fifth inning before he was pulled after recording one out. Mason Fox and Kevin Kopps finished the rest of the game while allowing just one run.

Nolan Watson will start for San Antonio on Saturday.

 

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 3-1) (44-62)

Brandon Valenzuela- 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K

Albert Fabian- 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K

Jackson Wolf- 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 10 K, 1 BB

Nick Thwaits- 2 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 1 K

Jackson Wolf struck out 10 batters across six innings in a 3-1 loss for the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Wolf in his last four starts now has 26 strikeouts while allowing just two runs. Albert Fabian singled home Lucas Dunn to begin to ballgame for the only Fort Wayne run. Wolf was causing until allowing a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game. Nick Thwaits relieved him in a tie game and allowed two runs in the eighth to take the loss. 

Jose Espada will start for Fort Wayne on Saturday.

 

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 6-4) (62-43)

Matt Boswell- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 K

Drew Pomeranz- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB

Two runs in the ninth inning were not enough for the Lake Elsinore Storm in a 6-5 loss. Lake Elsinore got out of the gates with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. This came after two scoreless innings from starter Matt Boswell and a scoreless inning from Drew Pomeranz on his rehab assignment. Pomeranz also struck out one in the this inning. Will Geeredes got tagged with five runs in the fifth inning to give the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes the lead. Justin Farmer homered and Jackson Merrill doubled in ninth to give the Storm hope, but the tying run was left on the bases to end the game. 

There is no scheduled starter for the Storm on Saturday.

 

Arizona Complex League Padres (Lost 2-0) (4-9)

Braedon Karpathios- 1-3, 1 BB

Romeo Sanabria- 0-1, 2 BB

Wilton Castillo- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Adrian Luna- 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K

Despite allowing just two runs, the ACL Padres lost to the ACL Dodgers 2-0. The padres got just one hit, a single by Braedon Karpathios. Wilton Castillo and Adrian Luna pitched the first five innings with 11 strikeouts before Jeferson Gracia allowed the only two runs in the sixth inning. 

There are no scheduled pitchers for the ACL Padres on Saturday.

Dominican Summer League Padres (Lost 6-1) (Lost 6-2) (30-21)

Game 1 for the DSL Padres was a completion of their contest against the DSL Orioles from July 8.

In game 2, Maikol Munoz doubled in a run to tie the game before Jesus Castro singled him home to give the Padres a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. The Orioles tied the game in sixth inning against Joel Asencio. Xavier Ruiz allowed runs for the Orioles to take the lead in the seventh. 

There are no scheduled pitchers for the DSL Padres on Saturday.
