Missions drop fourth straight game against RoughRiders
A rough outing from Padres No.10 prospect Victor Lizarraga proved too much to overcome for the Missions as they fell 5-2 to the Frisco RoughRiders on Thursday night at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium.
Despite holding a respectable 2.81 ERA through his last ten appearances, Lizarraga got into trouble early and collapsed in his final inning to drop game four against Frisco
In the opening inning, Frisco right fielder Josh Hatcher brought in the first run of the game after reaching first base on a fielder’s choice, allowing Liam Hicks to score. The following at-bat, Keyber Rodriguez sliced an RBI single to left field, bringing Cody Freeman home.
San Antonio responded in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Padres No.11 prospect Brandon Valenzuela to bring in Clay Dungan, making the score 2-1.
In the third inning, the Missions tied the game 2-2 with a sacrifice fly from Dungan that allowed lead-off hitter Ripken Reyes to score.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the RoughRiders added three runs to their lead in the top of the fifth.
A bases-loaded walk by Lizarraga allowed Hicks to trot home. The next at-bat, Freeman grounded into a double play, which was enough for RoughRiders’ center fielder Daniel Mateo to reach home. That was followed up by an RBI double from Hatcher to score left fielder Aaron Zavala, bringing Frisco’s lead to 5-2.
The Missions had opportunities to win the game yet failed to deliver when it mattered. San Antonio finished with seven runners left on base and went two of eight with runners in scoring position.
The Missions’ series finale against the RoughRiders is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium.
