Franmil Reyes Double-Dips, Padres Win 10-5, Sweep O’s

Looking to get back to .500, the Padres threw Matt Strahm out to try and sweep the Orioles in the finale of a brief two-game series in Baltimore.
Dylan Bundy took the mound for the Orioles.
Like Tuesday’s game, the Orioles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Strahm came out of the gates shaky.
The Friars responded quickly in the top of the second when Greg Garcia hit a go-ahead, two-run home run, giving the Padres a 2-1 lead. After a walk, a hit, and a stolen base, Eric Hosmer drove in a third run with a ground out, extending the Padres’ lead.
Franmil Reyes began his onslaught in the third, when he launched a solo home run several rows deep into left field, giving San Diego a 4-1 lead.

Strahm ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth when he allowed Jonathan Villar to hit a two-run homer, cutting the lead to 4-3. Reyes then gave the Padres some breathing room in the top of the fifth with a two-run bomb, his second of the day and his 22nd of the season.
In the top of the sixth, Manuel Margot was hit by a pitch then stole second before Eric Hosmer launched his 12th home run of the season, giving the Padres even more cushion with an 8-3 lead.
Strahm finished the start with six innings pitched, and four earned runs on five hits. Impressively, he struck out nine batters without a single walk as he pounded the strike zone all afternoon long.
With the score 9-4 after a Hunter Renfroe solo blast, Trey Wingenter came on in the seventh and allowed two hits and an error let the bases be loaded for Orioles slugger Trey Mancini, but Wingenter punched him out for a clutch out to end the inning.

San Diego added on thanks to Fernando Tatis Jr. beating out an infield single and then stealing second base, both times being initially called out before the reviews reversed both calls. This allowed Hosmer to single Tatis home, giving the Friars a cushy 10-4 lead.
Cal Quantrill came in to pitch the bottom of the eighth and struggled with command, walking in a run before Craig Stammen put out the fire, limiting the damage to just one run.
Stammen stayed in for the ninth inning and shut it down for his fourth save of the season, sealing the 10-5 win.
Alongside Reyes’ big day at the plate, Hosmer collected three hits and four RBI, and Greg Garcia had a multi-hit game. Machado finished his homecoming series with three hits, a home run and he reached base five times in the two games.
The Padres swept the two-game series against the lowly Orioles and now come home at .500. After a soul-crushing series in Pittsburgh, being back at .500 and starting a homestand is a big boost of momentum. The Padres have an off day on Thursday before beginning a weekend series with the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.
