The Fort Wayne Tincaps next series will be on the road against the South Bend Cubs.

South Bend is the high A affiliate of the MLB Chicago Cubs. Although the Cubs and Tincaps both reside in the same state, they are in different divisions.  The Cubs are in the Western Division while the Tincaps are in the Eastern division.

Both of these clubs were hoping to get off to a better start record-wise. Both teams are near the bottom in the standings in their divisions.

However, both teams did find some momentum in their last series to build around. Perhaps the Cubs found more.  The Cubs shut out the league-leading Dayton Dragons Friday, won on a bases-loaded walk Saturday, and held on Sunday to win 4-3.  The Cubs ended up winning the series 4-2 over the Dragons.  The Cubs did benefit when Dayton’s Brian Rey was promoted to Double-A.  Rey was arguably the hottest hitter in the league.

The Tincaps are coming off a series where they faced the Lansing Lugnuts, a high-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. Twice in that series, the Tincaps put up more than ten runs.  On Saturday, everyone on the starting lineup card got a hit, while six other starters had more than one hit. The Tincaps ended up splitting the series 3-3 after an 8-3 loss Sunday.

Who To Watch

South Bend: OF- Brennen Davis is an MLB top 100 prospect in the Cubs organization who made his debut last Saturday in South Bend, hitting a home run on Sunday in the DH position.  This is a rehab assignment, so it is unclear how long or how much playing time he will see in South Bend.

Fort Wayne: OF- Augustin Ruiz- He leads the team in home runs and RBIs. However, he will look to get his batting average above the .200 line as he has been quiet since his two home run, eight RBI game performance earlier this week.

Who’s Hot

Fort Wayne: SP- Ethan Elliot- In four starts, he has a 1.83 ERA and 32 strikeouts. Look for him to make his next start closer to the weekend in South Bend.

South Bend: INF-  Delvin Zinn A speedster who leads the league in stolen bases.  He is also patient at the plate and finds a way to get on base.
