In this brand new edition of the San Diego Padres EVT Podcast, we bring you the minor league editor of Baseball Prospectus, Craig Goldstein. He sits down and speaks with us about Padres prospects and their abilities now and in the future.
It is extremely interesting to get a point of view from an expert and someone who is not partial to the Padres or their prospects. He pulls no punches with his evaluations and they are generally spot on.
We discuss the brand new top 101 prospect list that was recently released and we delve into exactly how the list is constructed by the Baseball Prospectus crew. He has some interesting comments regarding the list. Things that you really don’t think about when constructing a list like this.
Craig enlightens us on the Padres top three prospects who made the list. Hunter Renfroe, Manuel Margot and Javier Guerra are all evaluated heavily and we also discuss their future in the game of baseball. Margot and Guerra were highly touted prospects from the Red Sox and we get his take on the Padres trade of Craig Kimbrel and how the Padres made out in the deal.
Craig Goldstein also talks about the recent rumors of Matt Kemp on the trade block. Turns out he is a big fan of Kemp and still has confidence that he can be a productive major league player. Wil Myers is another hot topic of discussion as we speak of his potential and if he will ever reach it.
Austin Hedges, Travis Jankowski and Colin Rea are also evaluated and his assessment of each is interesting to say the least. Again, it is compelling to see the perception of a players worth from someone who is not biased at all towards the Padres.
