In this edition of the Padres EVT Podcast we speak to Derek Togerson of NBC 7 Sportswrap. He has covered San Diego sports for the past 11 years and has done some fantastic work with the Padres and the Chargers. He has seen it all in those 11 years and his universal experience is held in very high regard.

We are traditionally a Padres podcast, but I simply could not resist the opportunity to ask Derek some Chargers related questions. He is very passionate about the whole Chargers stadium fiasco and had some very interesting comments regarding the Chargers latest plans to pursue a downtown stadium in the East Village area.

Eric Weddle is discussed as is the Chargers broken relationship with their fan base. We all agree that Dean Spanos needs to do more if he truly wants a new stadium in the Downtown area of San Diego. Chargers topics are a very hot discussion point these days.

Of course Derek gives his impression of this 2016 Padres team and he goes as far as calling the year a “try-out” year or a year of assessment. A very realistic take on what the season could be for the Padres. Hopefully the assessment will not take too long and the team can be productive this season. One can hope, can’t they?

We talk about A.J. Preller and the job he has done so far. Derek shares the G.M.’s vision for the future and understands the franchise is headed in a positive direction. Andy Green and the way he conducts himself is talked about as well. Derek talks about the first time manager and the winning culture he is trying to build in San Diego.

We want to thank Derek for taking time to sit down and talk to us.
