The San Diego Padres had 10 players in action on Wednesday night.

Franchy Cordero was arguably the most notable player participating in game action. The center fielder continues to make a smooth transition to the outfield and will be a real contender for a roster spot in the spring. Keep an eye on the speedy Dominican outfielder.

The Peoria Javelinas lost 7-5 on Wednesday to the Scottsdale Scorpions. Walker Locket got the start and was not very effective. He allowed two solo homers to Reds’ third base prospect Taylor Sparks. Peoria is now 11-8 on the year.

Fernando Tatis had the day off after a recent slump at the plate and a couple of errors on the field on Tuesday night. He looks to get back in the lineup very soon and further his progression in professional baseball.

Here is a glimpse of who played and what they did on the day.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Andrew Lockett went five innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. He struck out four on the day, but did allow two home runs on his 62 pitches. Lockett is now 1-1 on the season with a 7.71 ERA. The big right-handed pitcher is going to have to pick it up if he wants an opportunity with the big club this coming year.

Andres Munoz went 0.2 innings, allowing one hit and lowering his ERA to 1.59 on the year. Munoz throws fire and could be a bullpen piece in the near future for the Friars.

David Bednar threw a scoreless inning, striking out one batter for the Javelinas. His ERA is now at 1.50 on the season. He is a decent little prospect.

T.J. Weir went one inning, striking out two batters. The right-handed reliever has an ERA at 1.80 now in the AFL season. Older prospect who could be a factor very soon in the bullpen.

DOMINICAN/MEXICAN/CARRIBEAN WINTER LEAGUES

Rafael Ortega went 0-4 with an RBI and a strikeout. He is now hitting .235 on the year.

Franchy Cordero was 2-4 with a run on Wednesday as the outfielder continues to be pretty consistent for his DR team. He is hitting .309 on the year.

Luis Torrens was 3-4 on November 1, as he continues to get many at bats in the Venezuelan Winter League. He is hitting .286 and will provide the Padres with some exceptional depth at the catcher position in the upper minor league levels.

Alberth Martinez was 1-4 and is now hitting .284 on the season.

Jose Castillo threw three pitches and allowed a hit in his appearance on Wednesday. His ERA remains 0.00 as the bullpen picked him up.
