The San Diego Padres affiliates were 2-1 on this Memorial Day. The San Antonio Missions were enjoying the day off.

Here is a recap of the days action.

El Paso Chihuahuas (26-26) Lost 11-2

It turned out to be a bullpen day for the Chihuahuas, as Jesse Scholtens was annihilated for eight earned runs in two innings of work. That was the bad news on the day for El Paso. The good news was that six relievers came in and allowed just three more earned runs in the game. Trey Wingenter, Eric Yardley, Colten Brewer and infielder Diego Goris threw scoreless innings for El Paso. Yes. Diego Goris. Nothing special for El Paso offensively, as they only managed six hits of the Grizzlies pitching staff.

A five-run fourth inning was the difference in the 8-5 win for the Storm, on the road in Rancho Cucamonga. With one out, the Storm recorded four straight hits, followed by two walks and a Buddy Reed single to produce five runs. Ronald Bolanos was effective enough for the win, going six plus innings. Dauris Valdez came in for his fifth save of the season. The huge right handed pitcher now has his ERA at 3.00 for the year. The team had four men with multiple hits on the day, as the Storm recorded 13 in total. Michael Cantu, making his first start of the year behind the plate, went 1-for-3 with a homer.

Buddy Reed– (2-3) 3 RBI, BB, 2 K

Brad Zunica– (3-5) 2 RBI, Run

Ronald Bolanos– (Win) 6.1 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K (95 pitches- 59 strikes)

Fort Wayne TinCaps (23-27) Won 3-0

Luis Patino is a name to remember, as the young right handed pitcher has a very live arm. He generates a lot from his small frame and could remain a starter as he features a developed sense of how to pitch. He was excellent on Monday, going five scoreless innings and striking out four. Jordan Guerrero and Ben Sheckler came in to relieve him and preserve the shutout 3-0 win over the Lugnuts. Three TinCap’ players had multiple hits, including Esteury Ruiz who also stole two base on the year taking his total to 13 on the year.

Esteury Ruiz– (2-4) 2B, BB, 2 SB

Jeisson Rosario– (1-5) Run, RBI

Luis Almanzar– (2-4) Run, K
