Down on the Farm: May 27- Buddy Reed Homers in Third Straight Game
The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres went 3-1 today.
Here is a recap of today’s action
El Paso Chihuahuas (26-25) Won 2-0
In a low-scoring affair for both sides, it was the Chihuahuas who took the victory today as Chris Huffman and four relievers combined to shutout the Fresno Grizzlies. El Paso would score early with a Luis Urias home run in the first inning and an Allen Craig triple being the only run support that the Chihuahuas would need. Rehabbing outfielder Hunter Renfroe was 1-4 with a strikeout.
Luis Urias: 1-4, HR, RBI, R, 2 K
Allen Craig: 1-3, 3B, RBI, K
Carlos Asuaje: 1-4, R, K
Chris Huffman: 4 IP, 4 H, 4 BB, 2 K, (78 pitches-47 strikes) No Decision
Eric Yardley: 2 1/3 IP, H, BB (35 pitches-21 strikes)
San Antonio Missions (30-20) Lost 7-3
The rehabbing Colin Rea struggled today as the Missions put up little resistance as they got swept by the Springfield Cardinals. The Missions wouldn’t score until the fourth inning on an RBI triple by Taylor Kohlwey, but the damage was already done by then and the Missions’ bullpen would provide little relief. Kohlwey would homer in the ninth inning, but it was far little far too late.
Taylor Kohlwey: 3-4, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, R
River Stevens: 2-4
Fernando Tatis Jr. 1-5, 3B, K
Colin Rea: 4 2/3 IP, 6 H, 5 R (4 earned), 3 BB, 2 K (75 pitches-43 strikes) Loss
Lake Bachar: 3 1/3 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, BB, 2 K (41 pitches-28 strikes)
Lake Elsinore Storm (24-26) Won 5-3
It was a very good collective game for the Storm, as they fought back from a run down in the eighth to win the ballgame to sweep San Jose. Although Adrian Morejon surrendered three runs over five innings of work, the Storm got a two-run home run from Buddy Reed and a two-run single from Brad Zunica to grab their third straight victory. It was Reed’s third straight day with a home run as his average has now increased to .348
Buddy Reed: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI, R, 3 K
Brad Zunica: 1-4, 2 RBI, K
Ruddy Giron: 2-4, 2B, R
Luis Torrens: 1-3, 2B, R, RBI
Adrian Morejon: 5 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, BB, 4 K (94 pitches-65 strikes) No decision
Fort Wayne TinCaps (22-27) Won 4-3
After blowing a late lead last night, the TinCaps decided to stage their own comeback in the ninth inning in the strangest of ways. A throwing error on a sacrifice bunt allowed Jalen Washington to score and a balk would let Podorsky score the go-ahead run. It was a short outing for Osvaldo Hernandez as he would only throw three innings, but the Fort Wayne bullpen held their own and shut down the Lugnuts to secure the victory.
Luis Campusano: 2-4, RBI
Jalen Washington: 1-2, 2B, R, 2 BB
Esteury Ruiz: 1-5, RBI
Osvaldo Hernandez: 3 IP, 2 H, 2 R (1 earned), 3 BB, K (55 pitches-28 strikes) No decision
Evan Miller: 3 IP, H, K (32 pitches-22 strikes)
Probable Pitchers for Monday’s games
