The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres were 2-6.

Here is a quick recap of today’s action.

El Paso Chihuahuas (50-41) Lost 8-2

After a short rain delay in the seventh inning, the Chihuahuas would absorb a loss in their first game back from the MLB All-Star break and snapped a five game winning streak. Starter Jerry Keel didn’t have his sharpest stuff, as he allowed five runs on seven hits while walking three in his five innings of work. While three more runs were charged to Trey Wingenter, who only got one out. Forrestt Allday had a solo home run and Matt Szczur had a RBI single in his first game in Triple-A.

Lake Elsinore Storm (43-49) Lost 8-4

The Storm took an early three run lead in the first inning, but Inland Empire tied the game in the fifth inning off of Reggie Lawson and took off for four more runs to lose their fourth out of fifth game. The Storm got their initial lead thanks to a three-run home run from Jorge Ona and a RBI groundout from Edward Olivares. However, each Lake Elsinore reliever allowed at least one run, with starting pitcher Lawson pitched five innings of four-run ball while striking out four. Cody Tyler allowed the go-ahead run to score in the sixth inning and was given the loss.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (44-46) Lost 6-2

The TinCaps failed to make a comeback in the ninth inning as the offense, despite getting ten hits, failed to turn those into runs. Mason Thompson couldn’t get past the fourth inning as he allowed four runs on seven hits as his ERA jumped to 5.02 on the season. A Luis Almanzar double and a Jalen Washington single brought home runs in the ninth inning, but the TinCaps were unable to gain any more ground as they lost their fifth game in six attempts.

Tri-City Dust Devils (13-14) Lost 9-5

Tri-City’s pitching dug the team into a hole that the team was unable to dig themselves out of. Cole Bellinger was hammered for three innings, allowing six runs on six hits and surrendering two home runs in only three innings pitched. The offense fought tooth and nail as every position player with the exception of Michael Curry had a base hit. Owen Miller, Kelvin Alarcon and Olivier Basabe each had multiple base hits while Miller and Basabe had RBI hits, but they team couldn’t come back to swipe a victory.

AZL Padres 1 (6-12) Won 5-0

The Padres, led by excellent games from pitchers Luarbert Arias and Edwuin Bencomo, shutout the AZL Giants Black while playing a clean game on the field. The Padres broke the tie in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly from Juwuan Harris and added on insurance runs in the fifth and sixth inning. Arias and Bencomo each pitched scoreless outings as the two both pitched four innings in the game, with Arias striking out four and Bencomo striking out three.

AZL Padres 2 (9-10) Lost Game 1 8-2

Despite gaining the initial lead, the Padres couldn’t hang on to the lead and dropped the seven-inning Game 1 to the AZL Giants. The initial burst of runs came thanks to RBI hits from Jason Pineda and Luis Roman, who have begun their seasons by hitting .348 and .346 respectively. However, the Padres picked up only two base hits after the inning as their pitchers got hit hard as the initial lead was squandered and the Padres dropped Game 1 of the doubleheader.

AZL Padres 2 (10-10) Won Game 2 8-0

The Padres rallied themselves after an early loss and put on a spirited display of offense, shutting out the Giants and scoring eight runs in the process. Four Giants errors led to two unearned runs to cross the plate, and a grand slam from Elvis Sabala helped the Padres run away with a big victory. Gabriel Morales pitched four innings while striking out seven and Luis Eusebio piggybacked off the start by throwing three innings while striking out five.

DSL Padres (20-15) Lost 2-1

In a low-scoring affair, the DSL Padres only had three hits, two coming in the final inning. Cristian Heredia followed a base hit from Brandon Valenzuela with a ringing double to center field, but three quick outs ended the Padres chances of winning. Manuel Partida pitched a wonderful game of baseball, throwing six innings of two-run ball and striking out six.
