Down on the Farm: August 15- Hudson Potts Has Big Night in Loss

The San Diego Padres affiliates were 3-4 on Tuesday. The AZL 2 team did not play.

In El Paso, the Chihuahuas were victorious 4-2, behind right-handed pitcher Chris Huffman. He was able to contain the Albuquerque Isotopes by allowing just one run in five and a third innings pitched. El Paso got out to a quick 3-0 lead after four innings and was able to hold off a late rally by the Isotopes. Kevin Quackenbush recorded his second save of the season as he pitched the final two innings of the game. Ryan Schimpf and Chase d’Arnaud both homered in the victory and Travis Jankowski went 3-4 out of the leadoff spot.

The Missions fell to Springfield 7-2, as Jake Esch was knocked around a bit. Offensively, the Missions were quiet, only amassing three hits on the night. Franmil Reyes hit his 17th home run of the season in the first inning, but not much positive happened with the bats for San Antonio.

The Lake Elsinore Storm also only managed three hits on Tuesday, as they were shut down by Inland Empire 2-0. Edwin Moreno, Austin Allen, and Travis Kohlwey were the only Storm players to record a hit, as Joe Gatto, Winston Lavendier, and Sean Isaac completed the shutout for the 66ers.

Hudson Potts had himself a night as he went 3-4 with a home run and three RBI. Potts had a two-run single in the first to put the TinCaps up 5-2. He also later hit a solo home run to tie the game at six. In the end, Fort Wayne fell 7-6 as Jordan Guerrero took the loss.

Tri-City won 4-3 and are now six games above .500 on the year. Justin Lopez recorded three hits and Luis Almanzar got two, as the young double play combination has started to gel. The team continues to strike out a lot (eight on the night), but has still managed to win more ballgames than they have lost.

The DSL Padres lost a close one 3-2. Daniel De La Cruz started the game and went three innings, striking out two and allowing two runs. Center fielder Yordi Francisco went 1-3 with a home run and two RBI in the loss.
