The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres were 1-3. San Antonio, Lake Elsinore, and both of the AZL Padres squads were off today.

Here is a recap of the day’s action:

El Paso Chihuahuas (67-52) Lost 4-3

Despite having a lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning, T.J. Weir couldn’t get the save and allowed the winning run to cross on an RBI single by Alberto Triunfel. A strong start from Jerry Keel was thrown to the wayside because of this, and he was given a no-decision. He pitched seven and one-third innings while allowing only two runs, striking out one and walking two. The Chihuahuas tied the game in the top of eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Luis Urias, then took the lead on Francisco Mejia‘s second home run in an El Paso uniform. Fort Wayne TinCaps (55-63) Won 3-2

The TinCaps held off a late rally by the Whitecaps and hung on to win their fifth game in the past six days. Mason Thompson returned from a lengthy DL stint and pitched four innings of shutout ball, allowing one hit and striking out four batters along the way. Owen Miller picked up an RBI in the first inning with a sacrifice fly, but it was Jack Suwinski, who had replaced Oliver Basabe in the same inning, who blasted a two-run home run in the third inning to give the TinCaps the essential run that gave them the win. Evan Miller got the final two outs of the game to slam the door on the Whitecaps and earn his fifth save.

Jack Suwinski: 1-3, HR, 2 RBI, R, K

Owen Miller: 0-3, RBI, K

Jeisson Rosario: 2-4, 2 R, K

Mason Thompson: 4 IP, H, 4 K (54 pitches-30 strikes)  No Decision

Tri City Dust Devils (24-32) Lost 3-2

The Dust Devils continue to slide as two runs in the tenth inning by Hillsboro handed them their fourth loss since coming off the All-Star Break. Tri-City tied the game in the eighth inning on a fielder’s choice that allowed Xavier Edwards to score from third base, but two runs in the tenth inning off of Korey Anderson put the Hops back on top. Tucupita Marcano slapped a single to right field to score Edwards in the bottom half of the inning, but with the bases loaded, Tre Carter would strike out to end the rally, as well as the game. Cole Bellinger had one of his best outings of the season, pitching six innings of one-run ball while walking one and striking out five.

Tucupita Marcano: 3-5, RBI

Grant Little: 2-4 2B, SB

Xavier Edwards: 0-3, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K, SB

DSL Padres (30-31) Lost 6-2

The DSL Padres struggled to get any offense going and the pitching faltered in a four-run fourth inning. Eudi Asencio pitched four innings, but it was the fourth inning that saw him surrender four runs and take the loss. Asencio would strike out two batters and walk three while giving up five hits. Reliever Sergio Carrizoza pitched four innings of relief and allowed only a single run to score while striking out four. Brandon Valenzuela and Vladimir Echavarria drove in both Padres’ runs with an RBI single and an RBI double, respectively.
