Down on the Farm 4/13: Naylor and Tatis Go Back-to-Back

The San Diego Padres affiliates were 1-3 on the night as only the Fort Wayne TinCaps were able to win.

There was plenty of action on the day so let’s get right to it.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (2-7) WON 13-2

The TinCaps got back on the winning track in a major way as they roughed up Bowling Green 13-2 on Friday. Mason Thompson was on the mound and pitched well for Fort Wayne in the win. Ben Sheckler got the final 10 outs for his first save of the year. A lot of offensive heros for the TinCaps as three players had a multiple-hit day and everyone in the whole lineup scored at least one run. The HotRods went through six different pitchers on the day and that could come into play as the weekend series progresses.

Lake Elsinore Storm

The Storm had a rough game, as the pitching staff gave up 11 runs (nine earned) on the night. Dauris Valdez failed to get an out, allowing three earned runs, and Austin Smith allowed three himself in his 2.2 innings of relief. Adrian Morejon started the game and was the victim of bad defense as he allowed two earned runs in his 86 pitches. Brad Zunica dropped a pickoff and Hudson Potts had a fielding error. Offensively, the team has some bright spots as three players had multiple-hit games for the Storm. In the end, a six-run top of the eight was too much for the Storm to overcome.

San Antonio Missions (5-3) LOST 8-4

The Missions lost 8-4 on a night where Logan Allen just wasn’t himself. The left-handed hurler walked three on the night and allowed 10 hits to fall to 1-1 on the season. Allen allowed four runs in the fourth as he walked a batter with one out. He was also hit by a comebacker in the inning. The Missions responded in the bottom of the third to make it 4-2 as Josh Naylor and Fernando Tatis went back-to-back with solo shots off of Travelers starter Johendi Jiminian. A three-run sixth broke the game open for Arkansas as Logan Allen was knocked out of the game. Jason Jester pitched well in relief of Allen for the Missions. Offensively, Austin Allen, Josh Naylor, and Fernando Tatis all homered.

El Paso Chihuahuas (3-6) LOST 7-1

Not much to report from El Paso, as the Chihuahuas were held to two hits on the night by Las Vegas. Corey Oswalt and three other pitchers were effective as El Paso was never really in this game. Chris Huffman started for the Chihuahuas and was decent in six innings. The problem was that nobody was hitting. Dusty Coleman and Nick Schulz were the only two that managed a hit on the night as the Chihuahuas fall to 3-6 on the season.
