Not one single person has had a bigger impact on the San Diego sports scene the last 20 years. There’s no argument against, @ me if you want to try. Coach Fisher built that basketball program down on the Mesa. He was handed ingredients that belong on an episode of “Chopped” and turned out a masterpiece worthy of a 5-star restaurant. The word “rebuild” does him no justice.
Not in our wildest dreams could we have envisioned two Sweet-16 appearances, a nationally ranked team as high as 4th, and one of the best basketball players in the world dominating night in and night out, that says San Diego State next to his listed College. Hi Kawhi.
I am sad to see Fish go, on a season like this last one, no less. But the timing was right. I wish he could have taken State to a Final Four. Then perhaps he would get the well deserved HOF nod that hasn’t happened because of that coward, Chris “Timeout” Webber. Love you, Jalen Rose.
I refuse to tweet, text, write, etc. the mascot of the team that ditched us. So you will only see me use the C-Word to describe them.
Please join my crusade vs that ****face Dean Spanos and crew.
I am still depressed. The NFL Draft starts today, as I am writing this, and I don’t know how to feel. This day used to give me joy comparable to a child’s on Christmas. But now I know Santa Claus isn’t real, and that was my parents eating those cookies. I am still feeling betrayed, and am not ready to move on.
I don’t have a new team and I just don’t know if I will sincerely be a fan of the NFL moving forward. Sure, I’ll play fantasy leagues with my friends and be on DFS on Sundays in the fall. But I just won’t care who wins a game or a championship ever again (at least with no action on it, duh). Because true/passionate fandom doesn’t work like that–we all know it. I wanted the C-Word to win a Super Bowl as bad as anyone. And not for the players but for the County of San Diego and its residents. We are starved for a champion.
Some of you former C-Word followers are now fans of the Raiders, Seahawks, Packers, etc. Are you truly going to be happy when your new “team” gets a win? Will a playoff victory get you excited enough to call in sick on Monday just because you want to rage so hard? Are you really going to care?
My biggest question goes out to the C-Word loyalists. The people who are sticking with them, even though the most disgusting combination of two letters now precedes their mascot name. If that C-Word team ever wins a Super Bowl in your lifetime, will it mean as much? Even half as much, as it would have here in San Diego?
If you say yes, I have another two letter combo for you….BS.
