Saturday was a slow night for the Padres that are playing winter leagues around the globe.

The players that are on Dominican and Venezuelan teams were off, so only six men were in action.

The hitters were 1-17 on the day with five strikeouts, and only one hurler was on the mound for the Padres. Perhaps Sunday will be a little more eventful.

Australian Baseball League

Buddy Reed went 1-5 with a strikeout. He played as the teams DH, but has been playing a very impressive outfield for the Cavalry. Reed is hitting .305 on the year and has shown some pop in his bat – something that has always been an issue to his game.

Gabriel Arias was 0-4 with four strikeouts as his up and down season continues. Arias hit three homers in the past few games and has picked it up offensively recently. The young man is still 17 though, so he will have games like he did on Saturday in the future. It just comes with the territory. Arias is hitting .235 on the year.

Mexican Winter League

Fernando Perez has been performing well in Mexico this winter. The infielder started at second base. He went 0-4 in the game, but still leads all the Padres players in homers and RBI. He is hitting .317 on the year and has played third, first, and second.

Jabari Blash was 0-2 with two walks and a run on Saturday. The outfielder is hitting .231 on the year and is probably on the bubble to be DFA’d by the Padres soon.

Allen Cordoba went 0-2 with a walk and a run scored as he started the game at third base. Cordoba is batting .236 on the year as he just started his winter league within the last week or so.

Gerardo Reyes went 0.2 innings pitched on Saturday, allowing one walk and striking out one batter. The right-handed reliever has his ERA at 2.04 for the year and has a very impressive fastball. He is one to keep an eye on moving forward.
