The San Diego Padres landed their man, as they selected Mackenzie Gore with the third overall selection in the draft.

The prep pitcher out of North Carolina is truly polished and the excitement regarding him is justified.

With the next two picks, the team selected high school catchers, which turned everybody’s head in San Diego.

Luis Campusano and Blake Hunt are true catchers in the terms that they will surely stick behind the dish at the professional level. Though the picks may not win a popularity vote, the team had a need and they selected arguably two of the best prep catchers in the draft.

As the second morning approached, you really had no sense of who the team would select.

A.J. Preller is known for thinking outside the box, so nobody really understood in which direction they would go.

The team held the third overall selection on the day, so Padre fans did not have to wait long for the next future Friar.

With the 78th overall selection in the draft, the Padres took Mason House out of a Texas high school.

Here is some video of the young man being recognized for his efforts.

Take notice of his swing and power. He was a four-year starter on varsity.

He has great speed and power, but some scouts question his bat. At 6′ 2″ and 190 lbs, he has great size. The left-handed thrower and hitter grades above average in all the intangibles. Reports are that he carries himself really well and should be able to progress despite only being 18.

In this next video you will see that he has speed and can generate some bat speed.

The San Diego Padres are presently rebuilding a farm system and trying to gain relevance in a very tough N.L. West. Players like this young man help grow the system by providing depth. House has the attributes to be a star in the league.

Next up is pick #108 in the fourth round. Let’s see in what direction the team goes. We will keep you informed.

  1. I like very much the way Nick Allen plays SS, even though he does not have the size many scouts want, he has an incredible ability to move around the diamond and quick hands, he is going to be a great “Khalil Greene” type of SS. So sad SD couldn’t draft him.
