With the number six draft pick in the 2019 Draft, the San Diego Padres have selected C.J. Abrams a prep shortstop from Georgia.

The San Diego Padres farm system got better on Monday as a top talent was added to the team.

C.J. Abrahms was drafted by the Padres, and he will surely be listed among the teams’ top prospects.

A year after drafting Ryan Weathers in the first round, and two years removed from selecting MacKenzie Gore in 2017, the Padres got their man in Abrams. He should start the year in Peoria and will report there once he signs his deal with the Friars.

There is some concern on this pick, as Abrams is currently a middle infielder and that is something the Padres have plenty of throughout their system. He has a special talent which could not be left on the draft board though. The Padres baseball operations team recognized this fact and pulled the trigger on the pick.

The 6-foot-2 left-handed hitter has plus speed and is described as a decent defender at shortstop. He has arm strength issues that could transition him to centerfield in the future. A position that he has played in the past. The Padres already have Xavier Edwards in the system who fit the same type of profile as Abrams, so it will be interesting to see how the team handles each man moving forward.

Abrams is slotted to get somewhere around $5.74 million for being the #6 pick. The Georgia high school player of the year will be an exciting player to watch.

Here is some video of the young man in action.

The Padres select again in the second round with pick #48. We will keep you informed of the pick and give you a breakdown of the player with some video.

  1. I like the pick James. If Edwards keeps doing his thing and Abrams can reach his potential with the bat, that is one hell of a top of the order or leadoff/#8 hitter tandem down the road. An up the middle of Campusano, Edwards, Tatis and Abrams in a few years would look pretty sweet! Where do you figure he will slide into the top 10 James?
