The San Diego Padres winning streak is over, but the loss of the game was not the worst concern for the team moving forward.

Fernando Tatis was injured in the game and had to leave with a hamstring problem. Nothing yet on the severity of the injury, but Tatis was in good spirits after the contest.

San Diego dropped the game to the Nationals by the score of 7-6 in 11 innings, as Matt Wisler gave up a solo home run to Matt Adams. Wisler was sufficient for the first two innings of his night but gave up the homer to Adams beginning his third inning of relief.

The Padres got off to a 6-0 lead after Eric Hosmer took starter Jeremy Hellickson deep for a three-run homer in the third inning.  Hosmer went 3-for-5 in the game and has his OPS up to .721 after a cold start to the season.

Padres’ starter Joey Lucchesi did not have his best stuff as he gave up four earned runs in four innings. He was relieved by Adam Warren, Luis Perdomo, Brad Wieck, Trey Wingenter and finally Wisler. The bullpen continues to be abused by the inability for the youthful staff to go deep in games.

The Tatis injury is concerning.

The Padres can not lose the young superstar for an extended period.

With Tatis out of the game at short, Manny Machado had an opportunity to do this.

If the Padres need someone to play short if Tatis lands on the IL, then Machado is competent. If this happens, expect to see a lot of Ty France at third base. The SDSU product had a fantastic year in Triple-A and has shown a lot in his short time in San Diego.

The Padres took two of three games for the Nationals and had an opportunity for a sweep. The team is playing well right now and now heads to Atlanta to take on the Braves.

  1. I would give Urias another week in El Paso. Myers is not and never will be a clean-up hitter. He is not a leader and crumbles under pressure. What gets me is how bad he looks at balls hit close to the wall. He is playing not to get hurt. IMO, he should of been able to catch that HR ball but jumped early. Myers K% is up to 38.1. For some reason he has not done well on the road either. I had a problem with Green using Warren instead of Perdomo, who in my opinion could of gave us multiple innings. Then used Wisler for a 3rd inning. He relies on his back end too much and does not keep the rest of bullpen on regular duty, so when you need them they are not ready.

  2. Today’s loss should go down as a start of moving Mr. Myers down in the batting order. He look’s like he is trying to pull every pitch that he at least swing’s at. Also, we all know that we need to get more inning’s out of our starters but I believe it was clear to every Padre watching the game that Mr. Luchessi did not have it today and was obviously struggling but Mr. Green stayed with him until it was too late. If Mr. Tatis is not ready to go next game then they should have Mr. Urias return from AAA to play second. Move Mr. Machado to short and have Mr. France at third. I believe Mr. Myers should take a few days off until he learns to take the outside pitch to right-center.
