The one returning player from the San Diego Padres top five prospects of last season, Hunter Renfroe is a soon to be 24-year-old drafted in the 1st round by the Padres in the 2013 draft. Coming out of the first round of the 2013 draft, expectations were high surrounding Renfroe. While he has yet to truly exceed those expectations, he has also not fallen short up to this point. Renfroe split time between Double A and Triple A last season, slashing .259/.313/.425 in 112 games in Double A and .333/.358/.633 in 21 games in Triple A. While the league the Padres triple A affiliate plays in as known as an offense heavy league, those numbers are still a significant improvement for the outfielder.

While many of the Padres other prospects have various strengths and weaknesses in different parts of their game, Renfroe is one of the most well rounded of any of the prospects on this list. Renfroe has above average power, an above average arm, and plays above average defense. While he lacks standout speed, and sometimes struggles with his plate discipline, Renfroe has the potential to be a five tool player. Renfroe is known for being truly aggressive in all aspects of his game, which sometimes comes as a detriment at the plate with high strikeout totals and low batting averages. With that being said, Renfroe has good size and a good makeup, and profiles as an everyday outfielder if he can be more consistent and patient at the plate. Renfroe could get the chance to prove his worth at the big league level as early as 2016, likely mid-season.
