San Diego Padres Day 2 Potential Draft Picks

The San Diego Padre have made three selections so far in the 2018 MLB Draft.
Ryan Weathers is a left-handed prep pitcher from Tennessee whose father, David Weathers, pitched 19 years in the majors. He has a high baseball IQ and a solid assortment of pitches.
The next selection was Xavier Edwards who is a prep shortstop with unbelievable speed. The switch hitter is raw, but offers a very nice ceiling.
With their third selection on the day, the team took Grant Little, an outfielder from Texas Tech who could be a nice sleeper pick. Little has improved every season he has played and could develop even more under the Padres guidance.
Day two is here and the Padres have a full day ahead of them.
It is impossible to know exactly who the team is looking at, but here are some names to keep an eye on.
The Padres have the #84 and #111 pick coming up and could very easily select quality prospects with those selections.
Durbin Feltman – RHP Texas Christian
Feltman was the closer for TCU and is seen by some to have the best fastball in the draft. He is arguably the best relief pitcher in the draft and even though this would be against the Padres draft philosophy, it is an intriguing name that could fall to the Padres in day 2.

Noah Song – RHP Naval Academy
Song seems to fit the mold of a Padres second day pick. Song had an incredible year: 1.92 ERA with a 12.2 K/9. The problem is their seems to be some uncertainty if he will be able to pitch professionally right away with his commitment to the Naval Academy. If he’s able to work out a deal, he could be a real steal for the Padres.

Aaron Ashby – LHP Crowder Junior College (Mo.)
Ashby put up video game numbers at his junior college with an 18.8 K/9 in 74.2 innings pitched for his school. This is a name coming out of the Midwest, an area the Padres have struck gold in the draft recently (See Joey Lucchesi, Eric Lauer and Nick Margevicius).

Simeon Woods-Richardson – RHP/3B Kempner H.S. (Tx.) Committed: Texas
The big right-hander from Texas, he stands at 6-foot-4, is a guy that possesses a lot of upside. He touches 93 MPH with a lot of downhill action, with a plus curveball.

Blake Rivera – RHP Wallace State Junior College (Al.)
Rivera had a 1.75 ERA this year in 67 innings pitched. He is a guy that may go later on day 2 but could be a play for the Padres.

Addison Barger – SS/C King H.S. (Fl.) Committed: Florida
Barger is an interesting player. He is listed as a SS/C but he did close for his prep team, showcasing his strong arm. He swings from the left side and even though he has a lot of moving parts, he swing stays in the zone for a long time.

C.J. Willis – C Ruston H.S. (La.) Committed: Louisiana State
Willis is a big catcher, 6-foot-4, in the mold of an Austin Allen. He is strong and may not last at catcher but there is no reason he cannot begin his professional career there.

Since he was a little kid he wanted to be one of those guys at the game who had the headset on, listening to the Colonel and Uncle Teddy, he has grown out of that, but the love is still there. Padres’ coverage will be biased at times, but mostly an honest dissection of the team he loves.
What’s up w Kumar Rocker. What’s his signability? Do we have the funds to snag him??

It appears, as Brian says, he is going to honor his commitment, that’s not to say a team may take him later but it doesn’t appear he will start his professional career until after he spends time in college.
Interesting piece. Intrigued by some of these players. Woods-Richardson already picked by Mets yesterday though.
