The San Diego Padres sent a few players to participate in winter league action this fall. Several men played throughout the globe on Wednesday.

Here is a brief recap of the day’s events.

Arizona Fall League

Hudson Potts– (1-4) Run 2 K

The third baseman has had a rough time in the desert batting .175 so far on the year. Potts has been playing sporadically and is still having an issue making contact. He has now struck out 12 times in 40 at-bats and has yet to record a homer. The 20-year-old is still very young, and this is a positive experience for him.

Logan Driscoll– (0-4) K

The catcher is batting .353 on the season even after an 0-for-4 night at the plate. He started as the DH for the Javelinas and is showing a plus bat from the left side of the plate. Driscoll is out of George Mason University and homered twice in his first taste of AFL action last week.

Owen Miller– (1-3) Run, BB, K

Miller is struggling at the plate but did go 1-for-3 on Wednesday. He is hitting .169 on the season for Peoria so far in the year. He started at second base and batted 7th in the game. Miller has a better swing than his numbers indicate. Playing at the AFL level has been a challenge for the infielder, and he has embraced it.

Reiss Knehr– 2 IP, 3 BB, 4 K (40 pitches- 22 strikes)

The right-handed pitcher recorded his 3rd hold of the season for Peoria. He went two innings and didn’t allow a hit in the game. He walked three and struck out four in his 40-pitch effort on Wednesday. Knehr has a 4.09 ERA so far this season in the desert.

Dominican Winter League

Ivan Castillo– (0-3) 3 K’s, RBI

The infielder is down to .289 on the season after an 0-for-3 game on Wednesday. He batted leadoff for the Leones and played shortstop. Castillo is Rule 5 eligible this season, but will likely remain with the Padres.

Josh Naylor– (1-3) Run, BB, K, SB

Naylor batted 5th on Wednesday and went 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base in the Dominican Republic. That was his third steal of the year as Naylor has been very aggressive on the basepaths. He is hitting .393 on the season so far for the Leones del Escogido, who are led by manager Jayce Tingler.

Aderlin Rodriguez– (2-4) K

The infielder went 2-for-4 on Wednesday and is hitting .278 on the season for the Leones.  Rodriguez was struck in the face early this month and spent some time on the Injured List. He is back at full strength now in the D.R. and hopes to make an impression.

Mexican Winter League

Rodrigo Orozco– (1-5)

The journeyman outfielder went 1-for-4 on Wednesday and is hitting .269 on the season for the Tomateros de Culican. Orozco spent the 2019 season between Amarillo and El Paso posting a .719 OPS in 92 games.
