Padres Winter League Report: November 29 (Franchy & Gettys Continue to Hit)

Franmil Reyes underwent successful knee surgery in San Diego on Thursday and everything went well. He will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks, but should be at full strength when the spring season starts in late February.

There were several players in action on Thursday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events:

Dominican winter league

Franchy Cordero– (1-2) 2 BB, K

The athletic outfielder hit a double on Thursday and walked twice. His average is up to .321 on the season for the Leones.

Fernando Tatis Jr.– (1-4) 2B, K

Tatis hit in the leadoff spot on Thursday and doubled in four at-bats. His average is at .262 for the season for the Estrellas.

Francisco Mejia– (0-4)

Tatis’ teammate in the D.R. is Mejia. He was starting behind the dish on Thursday, but went hitless. His average is at .231 so far this season.

Mexican winter league

Gerardo Reyes– 1 IP, K

The right-handed pitcher remained perfect with another scoreless inning on Thursday. He has had a very strong year in Mexico.

Puerto Rican winter league

Aldemar Burgos– (1-3) 2B, K

Burgos has been swinging a hot bat on the island of Puerto Rico. He is undervalued in the deep Padres’ system and could emerge in 2019 playing in Lake Elsinore or Fort Wayne. He is hitting .382 so far on the year.

Venezuelan winter league

Gabriel Arias– (0-0) Run

Arias has had some defensive issues and has not played much recently. He was used as a pinch runner on Thursday and scored. He is hitting .263 on the season in Venezuela.

Luis Torrens– (0-4)

Starting behind the plate, Torrens went 0-for-4 and is down to .394 on the year in Venezuela.

Australian Baseball League

Jarryd Dale– (0-3)

Dale has been struggling with the bat and is down to .136 with his batting average in Australia.

Michael Gettys– (2-4) 3B, RBI, 2 K

Gettys continues to hit, but he did strike out twice on Thursday. He is hitting .344 on the year for the Bite.
