As the week goes on, more and more players are beginning to arrive at camp.

Fernando Tatis Jr. arrived in Peoria, and like a moth to a flame, there was an immediate attraction for the media. His English has progressed so well recently, that he is able to handle questions without a translator. Flashing his electric smile and doing these interviews with ease is further evidence that he means business as far as improving himself on the ball field.

Tatis has an unbelievable work ethic and can do anything he puts his mind to. He should be playing in a Padres uniform very soon.

The San Diego Padres have embraced the thought process that the sky is the limit with these young kids. It is no secret that the team is stacked with developing talent that all have high ceilings in terms of potential. Not all the talent will be successful, but the Padres have definitely put in the effort to give each the chance to succeed.

Pitchers need this time to throw and begin exercising their arms. Multiple young arms are in camp and already throwing off the mound.

Position players are also in camp as Carlos Asuaje, Josh Naylor, and Freddy Galvis have all been spotted on the back fields working on fundamentals.

It is an exciting time for Padres fans as we are roughly one week away from the first spring game of the year.

News and Notes

Rowan Wick was claimed off of waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals. The former catcher and outfielder turned relief pitcher was placed on the 40-man roster.

Fernando Tatis Jr. proclaims once again that he wants to play at Petco, sooner rather than later. I don’t doubt the man one bit.

Trevor Hoffman was in camp. He immediately began mentoring some young pitchers.

Jose Pirela has been working at second base recently. Obviously the team is still communicating with Eric Hosmer as Pirela would probably move to the infield with a signing of Hosmer.

Colten Brewer, Colin Rea, Phil Maton, Robbie Erlin, Luis Perdomo, Cal Quantrill, and Jordan Lyles all threw a bullpen session.

A.J. Preller watched Cal Quantrill‘s bullpen session closely Thursday morning. He was spotted directly behind the pitcher closely monitoring the hurler.

A.J. Ellis was in full catcher’s gear and interacting with his new teammates. His leadership abilities are already on display.

  1. Excited about all the arms the Padres have. Wish the Hosmer talk would end and Dickerson talk begin! Better in every phase of the game I believe this group can be a wild card team .
Haven’t been this excited about our Pads in along time.
